Description
Sierra listened to the yelling die down behind her, feeling her heart rate starting to slow back down. She had never had a reaction like that arise form her asking a question. She didn't understand why the adult acted that way, or what she was asking what was wrong with her. She felt Iset approach quickly turned her head down to look solely at her bow. But the adult said nothing to her and walked right past.
It didn't make her feel any better.
"Sierra?"
She heard Alma's voice, much softer than it was a few moments ago. She too felt Alma approach, but still kept her gaze fixed squarely on her bow. Gripping and pulling at the fabric was the only thing keeping her grounded right now, and she didn't dare want to try and test that.
"Sweetheart?" Alma tried again, placing her hand on the wyngling's cheek and gently wiping away a tear.
Sierra leaned into the touch and sniffled. "I just asked a question..." She whimpered quietly.
"I know," Alma said, trying to figure out how to phrase what she was going to say. "But, sometimes questions like that... Well... They shouldn't be asked."
"Why not?" Sierra asked quietly, pulling at the ribbon again. "Was her child abducted like in Hook?"
"No..." Alma looked around a moment. "But, the question still upset her."
"Why?" Sierra pressed, more confused now. "If she didn't have a missing child, why would that upset her?"
Alma hesitated a few moments, looking around as if the answer would pop right out of the wall. Sierra watched her feet as she was quiet, trying to piece together why Alma wasn't answering her.
"I don't really know how to explain it in a-" Alma started, then cut herself off and bit her lip. "A way, you would understand."
Sierra lowered her ears and looked back to the floor. Alma tried to hug her, but she didn't return the contact this time.
