Description
It was a nice spring day. Traumer had gone out for a walk alone to enjoy the warmth and be alone with her thoughts. It was nice to be around her family...but some alone time was also great.
Traumer breathed in the fresh air and smiled. She loved this town, and the woods.
Thoughts went back to the horrific night, but she quickly shoved them away.
She was safe, and she survived.
She could even walk again, indoors and out.
Traumer gently traced the scar's that lay across her face.
'I'm alive...I survived.' She thought, removing her hand.
Her walk took her down a path she hadn't used since she was a wyngling.
How long ago that seemed.
The sights around her looked the same as hey did all that time ago. Traumer smiled as she passed Wyngling rock and other self made landmarks.
Then she saw it
The swing...
When Traumer was still a wyngling she loved to swing with Spero and Laelia.
It was still there.
Traumer found herself remembering how much fun she would have on it, feeling like she could touch the sky.
She smiled and the memories and started off again.
She finished her walk with time to spare and started on dinner.
After everyone ate, Traumer stood at the sink cleaning the plate.
But her mind wandered back to the swing, and to her wyngling hood.
Had she grown up to fast? No..she loved her family and she wouldn't trade one day. But the fun...the carefree feeling...Surly just swinging on a swing couldn't do that...could it?
Traumer thought for a while.
Once the dishes were clear she told Spero she was going out quickly and walked back outside.
Why was she doing this? It was so immature.
Traumer sighed and walked to the swing set, stumbling one or twice in the dark.
She stood before the swing and hesitated.
Now what?
She turned around and tried to get on the seat, nearly falling off because she put her weight on the wrong leg.
More difficult than it should have been, she got up on the seat and held the ropes.
Traumer was glad no one was around and looked to her legs.
or...leg
She felt a twinge in her heart staring at the metal rod where her leg should have been.
She could walk...mostly.
And her life was, for the most part, unchanged.
She shook her head and scolded herslef.
"Now stop, you're here to swing. Just swing."
Using her hoof, she pushed herself back a bit.
She did move, but twisted slightly from the uneven force.
Traumer kicked out her leg to try and correct it, but was failing.
So she tried pumping her body back and forth to get moving.
The branch that held the swing shook and Traumer barely moved.
Suddenly, she leaned forward to far and her prosthetic caught on the ground.
Traumer yelped and shot her hand down to keep it from coming off.
But her movement and unbalanced weight only threw her off the swing to the ground.
Traumer huffed and laid winded for a moment.
She opened her eyes an stared at the grass.
She felt embarrassed...and..ashamed.
How could she be like this?
Not even able to swing?
A wyngling could swing!
She used to swing!
But now...She couldn't...
Because of that limb.
Traumer felt like her weight increased as she struggled to get up.
Unable to, she had to crawl to the tree trunk and climb up it to get herself standing again.
She felt so...weak...and useless...
She could only walk on paths...
Someone had to help her in and out of the bath...
Stairs took twice as long as before...
and now...
Unable to do something so simple as swinging....
Traumer took one last look at the swing, then started off towards home.
