Description For 's What if: True Love contest.

Scenario~
Uru takes more than one mate? Aka, have some poly lions!

Story~

For a time, King Ahadi was truly happy.

Uru’s choice, the fact that she’d chosen to stay with him and Mufasa in the Pridelands, was all that really registered in his mind.  His people were none the wiser about young Taka’s true lineage. His eldest child was adjusting to the new role of “Big Brother” nicely, as if he’d never been an only child to begin with. Rehema, the rogue, never came back up in their conversations. And, most importantly, Uru seemed like she was doing well.  Nary an argument was had between the ruling pair after she revealed her truth to him. They continued their life together, raising their cubs, and moving forward as a family. Yet, Ahadi would have been as shortsighted as before if he didn’t come to wonder about his Queen’s decision to stay eventually. Of course, sooner or later a small voice in his head began to ask, “Why? Why did she stay?”

It wasn’t like she’d magically fallen for him after her confession. As much as he wished that were possible, that simply was not how love worked, was it? Likewise, could she have really come to fall out of love with her lover so quickly. Just like that? No. For Uru had said as much to refute such a notion when he was confronting her after their son’s birth.

“I also loved him…. Perhaps I still do.” Her words, verbatim. Could he really expect her to go against that so soon?

Well, as much as he would like to, the King simply could not push his growing suspicions aside. When she watched him play with Taka he wondered if she were imagining the boy with the rogue instead. When she looked out across the kingdom he couldn’t help but think that she was looking for him beyond the horizon. When Uru frowned was it because she was thinking about her lost mate?

A mixture of sadness and guilt started to pool inside of his chest again. The question, “Why did she stay?” Soon garnered what felt like an obvious answer.

Why wouldn’t she stay when her other option seemed so unfair?

What mother would take that risk? Traveling alone, save for her newborn son. In search of a romantic interest that might not even be around. What would she have done for food, water, or their son’s safety if she had elected to leave? When he thought of her options now, going out into the wilds by herself or staying amongst those she knew in a land where she was protected, there didn’t seem to be much to debate about which choice she should pick.

He felt foolish. Wrong. But more than anything, Ahadi’s feelings for Uru, feelings that’d never wavered either, spurred him to make a hard decision.

----

Three days passed by since the King’s disappearance, and as one could imagine the pridelanders were abuzz with activity. Small groups moved out to scout for Ahadi. Zuzu soared high across the land to search for any sign of the missing monarch. Uru, for the sake of her children, remained at Pride Rock, doing her best to console a worried Mufasa and Taka, who somehow seemed to know something was amiss despite his age.

When she gazed out towards the setting sun that evening her eyes only scanned the terrain for her missing friend and mate. Confusion, concern, and sadness were all things that rattled away in her heart. He’d been acting strange the last few weeks before his departure. She’d noticed the change in his typically content demeanor. Of course she’d picked up on it and tried to pry, to no avail. The more Uru had seen, the more she’d begun to worry, and now, now Ahadi was nowhere to be found.

Was it her? Was it something that she had done? Was it because their relationship still showed no signs of changing from what it was…even if, deep down, she felt much closer to Ahadi than she had before? All she could do was wonder, and yet, Uru could not imagine her childhood companion turning his back on their kingdom and family, even because of all that…not like her…The lioness thought as she chewed nervously at her lower lip. So maybe he was somewhere hurt, or kidnapped, or worse.

The anxiousness she feels over his wellbeing is just about too much to handle.

The search parties trickled in looking just as defeated as they have before, and Uru feels her heart constrict violently, as if it were trying to squeeze out the last few drops of hope that it held within it.

Darkness dropped down on the land like a heavy blanket that night, and as the rest of the pride hunkered down to rest, Uru fell limply against the tip of Priderock’s extended platform, gazing worriedly towards the glittering stars.

“Please let him be okay,” She begged softly. “Please bring him home.”

As if on cue, a hesitant reply answers back from behind her fallen form.

“I— actually, I'm back, Uru.” There’s no mistaking that voice.

Hastily she spins around, so fast that it must have seemed as though she might fall off the end of the cliff, because the same voice calls out and tells her to be careful. The warning is ignored. Her own wellbeing is far from her thoughts now as she moves to see him.

“Ahadi! Where— “Then suddenly her sentence cuts off, her mouth becomes slack, and her lower jaw just might have hit the ground if it wasn’t attached to her head.  She can’t believe what she’s seeing. She just can’t, but right there in front of her are the pair of lions that she cares most for. Right there! Both at once!

“H-how?”

Neither male seems to really know how to proceed from there. Both sporting an awkward smile upon their faces as they watch the poor girl fumble with her words. Her speech clearly isn’t going to be doing her any favors tonight, so she moves and acts on the first impulse that she can think of, running towards the pair before nuzzling into Rehema, smiling as he returns the action. “Love— Rehema I missed you. I…I didn’t think I would see you again. Not since— “The dark lion just smiles. “I know Uru. I missed you too, but I’m here. I’m here now.”

When she looks over at Ahadi again Uru is taken aback. It’s a bit saddened, but there’s a smile on his face. He’s happy for her, proud of himself, and she can see that. She can see that plain as day. Oh Great Kings, “Thank you!" Tears begin to fill the lower rim of her eyes. "Thank you so much, Ahadi!” Oh, Great Kings, she loves this man.

The mental proclamation takes her by surprise for a moment. She wasn’t expecting to think such a thing. But it can wait until later. Until things have settled. Until they move forward with their new life together.

And she does want it to be a life like that. One that's together with the two of them.

Honestly, she doesn’t want to imagine a life without both of these lions in it.
