Description
There are many schools and traditions involving magic, these range from formalized and organized academic orders with much prestige and status to small criminal organizations and users of gang magics. Among the western barbarians this is the case. Most notably among them being witches.

Witches are female mages from peasant stock that as a rule notable for their independent streak. They are rarely organized, at most frequently training up a couple of apprentices and working in small local groups. They mostly heal, give consultation on supernatural matters to locals, offer assistance were they can, deal with problematic supernatural occurrences and help in the defense of their villages when needed. Witches also serve as medicine women, midwifes and other such tasks. Witches are rarely formally employed, and are simply sought out or volunteer when their services are needed. Witches are generally known to command a certain level of fear and respect in their communities. Analogical roles are filled by men and women in the Zhong Empire, though it is a much looser category.

While they are not the most formidable magic users, they generally have a very good understanding of the local magical environment. This can make them quite dangerous on their home territory, especially in defense. Generally witches avoid direct combat, preferring to work behind the scenes using curses, requiring the attention of others magic users to deal with these problems. They can often be a major problem in conquest of an area, though their offensive off their home territory potential is fairly low. A few witches have adjusted themselves to post conquest life fairly well, however.
