Description
"Tram Line number 5, the West Circuit began today at 7:00. Mayor Baranova officially opened the new route and travelled on the first tram. This new line shall service several inhabited districts including Miles, Mahanivic, Valor, Svobodagrad, Canalview and Pioneer as well as several more under construction and planned. Further information about said bus routes has been posted at stops and in apartment buildings in said areas. This is Infrastructural Broadcasting Radio-5: Radiant City Local. And now the weather..." The tinny words came out of the Vox-III radio while Noski the cat dozed by it, taking in the warmth of the radiator.
"Finally." Vitali Dorsunov said as he cut into his Syrniki. "Timon's always complaining about the omnibuses in this weather and frankly I can't blame him." He gestured to the window with his fork.
"Can't argue with that. I got five patients in the west end." His wife Lila said as she read the newspaper. She was a Medic and generally went for a lighter breakfast than her husband.
"How's everything?" Galina the housekeeper said.
"Excellent." Vitali replied.
"Very good." Lila said.
"It's yummy." Said little Raya as she took apart her pancake. "Way better than Angelina's." Raya had not gotten on well with their previous' housekeeper.
"There's no reason to be negative Raya." Vitali said patiently.
"But I was being nice to Galina." Raya grumbled. "And Angelina was mean."
"She's not wrong." Lila replied, having shared her daughter's sentiment.
"Even so, you should not be mean to people just because they can't hear it." Vitali replied, not a fan of confrontation. "Focus on the great food we have here." He waved a bit of pancake for emphasis.
"AKI ATTACK! Gargraaw!" Yeva said as she ran up behind her father and proceeded to attack him with a plush sea critter. She'd already finished breakfast a few minutes ago.
"Okay there!" Vitali set down his tea with a grin on his face. "Not at the table. I got a big day today."
"Finally making those CT-4s?" Yeva asked, Vitali liked to talk about work in the evening.
"Yep. Got the moulds fixed up and we should be ready to go." The CT-4 panel set basically a revision of the CT-3 set with the panels doubled up to four meters wide and tiled. Faster and stronger. There was still a lot of construction going on. Each train brought more people into The Radiant City. Building in the dead of winter was difficult as concrete did not set, but he could build up a good stockpile. "And have you gotten your school stuff ready?"
"Yes dad." Yeva said annoyed.
"Wonderful my darling. We'll head out as soon as I'm finished." The school was near the tram stop and he usually walked with the girls to it.
In general this was quite a different life than he had as a kid, spent in small house near Lake Verteb with six siblings in the winter and from age eight onward spending a good chunk of the summer onboard a river boat helping out dad make his living on the family's small old paddlesteamer. One of his sisters had spent a few years as a maid, now he had a full-time housekeeper on hand. He'd heard some parents say that kids today were getting spoiled, he on the other hand was glad that he could give his kids what he never had.
