bThe Dark Nova

Piracy has existed for thousands of years. Thieves using the frontiers and ships to commandeer other vessels and loot for themselves. The 24th century is no foreigner to this reality. The most major force of piracy is the organization called the Dark Nova. This force is the bane of the United Earth Federation has caused conflicts that the military and other organizations have had to deal with. They are one of the most destructive and deadly criminal organizations in human history.

The story of the Dark Nova begins in 2296, Captain Alexander Fuji of the UEF space force contemplates how the current system in the UEF is regarding promotions. He was to become an admiral, but was beaten by the son of one of the UEF senator’s sons to the punch. So for a time, Fuji dreamed of just leaving the military. But, he was a military man through and through. Fuji was a very powerful Type 2 psychic mutant as well. He thinks about stealing his current vessel, The MacArthur, and going rogue as a pirate with his crew being very loyal to him and the others that don’t agree would be killed or brought under mental control. However, no port at the time would accept that, unless he found a safe haven.

Through the next year, Fuji finds out he’ll be transferred to a new experimental vessel. He is surprised and his goals for insurrection are culled at the moment. Until September 2297, Fuji is at a colony around Neptune and finds out a lot of the Sol system colonies that are passed Uranus (even though they are few in number) are owned privately by companies or extremely wealthy private citizens. He makes a deal with three colonies to provide him safe haven if he provides one-third his stolen goods and money to them. Through use of intimidation, use of his powers, and promises of glory. Fuji gets a group of two hundred and thirty-two smugglers on his side to help supply goods to his ships and for his ships to transport things when they secede.  Fuji also meets the captain that will take the second experimental ship that they will be attached to. Captain Richard Skelton is easily talked into the taking on the life of piracy if all is assured that they will have safe havens form UEF forces. After being assured by Fuji of success Skelton was ready to rebel when the signal was given. On June 3rd, 2098 The Tiamit and The Argus break rank and escape from UEF supervision. The crew that did not agree with the insurrection, very few of them, were killed and replaced. Fuji made sure that this group would have a name, ”The Dark Nova”.

Over the course of the next three years, the two Dark Nova ships eluded the UEF and made various raids and brilliant robberies. The boarding of the space luxury cruiser, The Waldorf , marked one of the largest robberies in history.  These continued streaks of wild violence and robberies made the Dark Nova a force to be reckoned with. The pay for the crews for the two vessels of the Dark Nova were quite well paying 30,000 credits a year (equivalent to sixty thousand dollars). These raids conducted by the ships on cargo lines and cruises made them wealthy. The superior tactics executed by the leadership of the Dark Nova made them elusive and extremely deadly to run into even for the military of the UEF. During this time period, the Dark Nova increases the establishing and buying out of drug rings on various colonies of the UEF. They establish a large criminal network that produces fraud Identification Cards, sells illegal weaponry, and is involved with the trade of unusual and exotic alien creatures. The Dark Nova also by 2303, acquire three old cargo vessels that are used for legitimate trade that makes the Dark Nova money (under a false name of course after dealing with a willing third party) that also are used to transport various forms of contraband and their agents. In 2304, a deal is struck between the Dark Nova, after they spread out to other systems, and various criminal cartels from the Gadaru-controlled parts of the galaxy that gives the Dark Nova a force of Gig Fighters (encapsulated AI troopers). Also in 2304, a old military vessel called The Midas (all purpose battleship type) is brought into the fold under the Dark Nova banner.

2305 saw the addition of more rogues from various different races join the Dark Nova at an event called “Emerson Day”. In the outskirts of the Formalhaut border colonies, there is a space colony called Emerson. Emerson is a privately owned colony that was originally built to siphon off Formalhaut’s debris and convert it into mineral wealth. The Dark Nova met in July of 2305 with various alien gangs and absorbed them through promises of financial gain and unity. This event increased the ranks of this group by 30% and diversified its membership.

In 2306, the Altair colonies go into rebellion and become independent calling themselves “New Rome”. Despite their anti-mutant policies, they take in the Dark Nova, because of the trade and protection they offer in exchange for safe haven and recruiting. As a sign of good faith, the New Roman government gives the Dark Nova several confiscated barges that the Dark Nova use as they use their several cargo ships under their command for transport for trade and agents.

In the following decade the Dark Nova continue to increase in number. Trade, legitimate and illegal, fuel their goals and add a slurry of fresh recruits. The destruction of The Hera and other vessels caused the creation of the Juggernauts and GCC anti-piracy legislation.
But before the Dark Nova started to take severe casualties from the Juggernauts, they added three other cargo ships and four battleships in 2310.

In 2317, when the Mizar colonies were being settled in a fever pitch, to take control of former Xilien-held territory, the Dark Nova ran rampant there. Raids were common and the UEF had called upon Juggernaut and the GCC’s Autonomous Antipiracy Security Forces (AASF) to aid in the battle. The Juggernauts answer the call, but because of the elusiveness of the Dark Nova fleet and the covert activities of the Dark Nova ground operatives, very little progress is made. The AASF does little to aid in the fight, due to Dark Nova raids elsewhere in the GCC.

Between this time and when the UEF finally declares war on the Dark Nova, the pirates seek aid from the Kushan Imperium. The Imperium does trade with the Dark Nova to an extent so they agree to aid the Dark Nova, as a way of causing instability within the UEF. The Dark Nova are able to confiscate a few UEF vessels and convert them into warships that have the stealth and the strength to be a problem for the UEF. When war does break out between the UEF and the Dark Nova it causes, in 2325, the destruction of a military colony in the Gemma system a whole host of other battles.  It is not known that Alexander Fuji truly is in charge of the Dark Nova any longer.
