Salutations! Took a bit longer to get something new up than expected. Things have been difficult lately to say the least, but I figured I could at least try to paint something to take my mind off things.I've got a fairly big truckload of stuff sitting on my hard drive. (Fairly, because a real truckload would crush the hell out of my hard drive). Most of it being paintings I started but I haven't got around to finishing it or putting it to use. This is one of them.
I don't know how long ago it was since I started on this thing, but it must have been at least half a year or so ago. Around the time I did my latest "DRAAAGOOOON!!!" comic.
The idea is simple: I was thinking back to the old Capcom arcade brawlers and how out there their designs always were. Thought I often do, I decided to just throw together the weirdest mix of attributes to make some kind of beat 'em up team. I decided to make a classic gathering poster type thing you often see on the old arcades, but then had to take a break.
Lately I was looking at old arcade designs again and decided to pick it up again. I will say this now though, these designs aren't really that thought out. It was just something random I made one day. However, I did take some time to polish things up a bit for this painting, so they're not that bad. The middle guy is a Crocodile Dundee guy with magic fists that wrestles dinosaurs for a living (yes!). We have miss tribal-like woman being a mix of middle eastern and Egyptian influences. We have roller disco guy and his black ostrich afro, and of course cyborg disembodied brain 'I will shoot you with missiles' guy.
The person way in the back happened purely by accident though. I had some swirls left of what I think was an unplanned enemy or burning junk. I looked for some shapes I could work with and... ended up with this guy. He's got a hose filled with gas hooked up to his neck, sports a mean suit and wields a freaking JET ENGINE as a weapon! I'm going to have to make something of this guy.
I'm sill wondering what I should use these guys for, but I did have a game I wanted to do with a similar theme, so I might. We'll see. For now, enjoy! (Holy crap I'm on a writing spree today...)

It's weird how some deviations can get so much attentions, while other seem to be totally neglected.. this is really nice, so is the colors.. must've got much effort put into it..

i would so be the ostrich afro guy, even if i sucked really bad... or the jet engine guy - he'd probably be more like my.. "oh yeah, you wanna see my TRUE power!?!?"-type guy, though i wouldn't be any better. you know, just that mental warfare you gotta do in videogames every once in a while.. heh.
excellent stuff - my only thing would be wanting to see a more varied color scheme on Dundee guy or Tribal chick, just to break things up/separate characters a bit more... you know like.. to unique-ify them just a tad more.

Awesome cast, especially Disco Derby Guy Man(tm)! Must suck for the bird, having a comb in its arse. It kinda reminds me of the bird from Up.
Though it puts me off how most of the pic is in blues, darks,and yellows, and then all of a sudden you have bright reds in the corner.
