If lyra is a tomboy why would she wear dresses very often or everyday in the first place? The people drawing for EQG arguably made a mockery of Dashie and AJ (both tomboys) by making them wear skirts as everyday outfits; Though their pony selves have worn dresses in canon material. Even Toph Bei Fong enjoyed a spa trip and knows high society manners and can use them if necessary.
Of course some tomboys like Princess Daisy and Zelda are much more covert with their tomboy personality; possibly a genuine shock to a non-observer.
