Description
They awoke the next morning, the fire was burning out, dregs of smoke still slowly blowing up in a small trail into the sky. It was nothing compared to the billowing smoke that rose up from Ridgedog's ruined castle. The dwarf awoke, looking around. His spacefriend was asleep against the rock that was behind him, his head resting on it. The reaper was sat up against his rock, his head lolling forward, and his arms folded. The fox girl was curled up on the floor in the corner of two rocks that were next to each other.
"First one up for once..." He sighed, and went into his pack, pulling out some food and his trusted frying pan. "Time to get all Samwise Gamgi on this." He sparked the fire more, getting it going again and then placed the pan on top, and began to cook some food for when everyone awoke.
The reaper was the first to wake up, and greeted Honeydew, before getting up and wandering around for a little while. Not long after the spaceman stretched his legs and arms, clicking his back before standing and sharing some of the breakfast that the dwarf had made. He then went to the fox tailed girl and shook her awake. She stretched on the floor and then sat up, looking tired.
"I only just got to sleep man..." She said quietly. Groggily.
"Sorry, but I don't think it'd be the best idea to stay here for too long." Xephos said, sitting back down.
"Why not mate?" Honeydew asked.
"Well think about it, while this place is nice and quiet and solitary... That crystal thing is following Ridge. So, we can't stay in the same place for too long because it'll find us."
There was a silence. "Where's posh boy gone anyway?" Exza finally chirped in.
"Gone for a wonder." Honeydew answered.
"Surely we shouldn't leave him on his own." She stood and walked over to the direction Ridge had gone in.
"Where are you going?" Xephos asked.
"To make sure fancy pants doesn't get himself killed. Well, by anyone other than me." And with that she disappeared off following the sandy trail.
"Uh, what If they have another fight?" Honeydew asked, half a sausage dangling from his house.
"I don't think they will. If they're not back in twenty minutes I'll go get them." Xephos answered. "I bet Lalna's wondering where we are..."
"He's probably just wondering where the breakfast is mate. And the coffee." As the dwarf said that he poured out a cup of coffee. "Want one?"
The spaceman shook his head. "Nah. I'll stick to water."
"Good luck with that, the rivers salt water."
The spaceman stood and walked to the river. That was behind the rocks they had camped in and down a bit of a ledge. "Really? Well that's annoying..."
"Yeah, I mean I used to for the coffee because I heated most of the salt out of it. Took a while though considering that heating water gets rid of the water..." The dwarf swirled his cup around and then shrugged before drinking it.
"I wonder if we could use our powers at all for this..." The spaceman brought the cup of salt water back up to where Honeydew was and sat down with it, crossing his legs. "You can control earth right?"
The dwarf nodded slowly.
"And yesterday we saw you can control a lot of elements that are in the ground and stuff." The spaceman continued.
"Yeah?"
"Well salts in the ground."
"I don't know mate, doesn't seem like something I'd be able to do..." The dwarf said sceptically.
"Well try it with the ground to practice. Then if you can you can get the salt out of the drink."
The dwarf shrugged, it wouldn't exactly be a big deal if he couldn't.
------------
Exza sat in a tree. Looking out at the rocks place they were in. The land was quite flat, big boulders were scattered around like the ones they had slept on the night before. There was some grassy patches and the paths were sandy. Her eyes skimmed the quiet land, looking for the reaper. She heard a whistling, and looked down, seeing him walking past the tree she was sat in.
"Where you going posh boy?" She asked, sheeting him jump and look around before looking up at the tree.
"What are you doing up there fox." He didn't seem amused.
"Looking for you." She answered casually, dangling from the branch by her legs and coming eye level with him. Her blue eyes always looked so bewildered. "We figured we shouldn't stay here too long. Seen as big crystal boys following you."
"Well why don't you lot just go back to your big factory and let the crystal come after me. I'm stronger than you lot anyway." The reaper said, turning and continuing to walk away.
At this point Exza scoffed and twisted herself round, falling from the tree and landing on her hands and feet. She hopped after him, still on all fours. "Well that's bullshit. Besides, you don't have your normal powers remember."
"I can manage just fine fox." Ridge said, glancing at her, his look one of annoyance. She sighed and turned around, heading back to the camp.
"Suit yourself." She began to hop away.
When there was a slight rumbling on the ground. The small puddles of rain water from a few nights before began to ring waves across them as the rumbling continued.
The reaper turned to her. "I'll keep it distracted while you guys find a new hide out, tell Xephos to concentrate on the area around me, not actually me, when he teleports. I don't want him to splice into me." He said.
The fox girl looked at him.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine. I'll just keep it moving around until you find somewhere safe. This place is alright, maybe we can come back here at a nighttime but until then we need to travel in the day. Find somewhere, and get us all safe." He nodded before turning, spotting a slight lens flare in the distance. The sun bouncing from the crystals surface. And with that he ran into the shrubbery, quickly disappearing.
She made her way up and behind some rocks, watching as the crystal turned, slowly, and menacingly made its way in the direction Ridge had gone. She was sure it hadn't spotted him, but it appeared to be quite cocky, seen as he was making his way slowly after the reaper. Instead of hurrying.
The fox tailed girl turned and jumped back up over to the other two when she was sure the crystal wasn't going to notice her. "Guys, pack up your stuff." She said.
"Where's Ridgedog?" Xephos asked, standing as Exza came over and quickly put out the fire with the water the two had spent purifying.
"That took me forever!" Honeydew said.
"The crystals here, we need to keep out of sight and try and find a safe place to lay low. Ridge is distracting it at the moment by keeping just out of its reach. So its following him around. We can't risk it catching up to him, so grab your stuff, whatever you need, and let's get going." She grabbed all of honeydews cooking supplies, throwing them into his pack, before hurrydly dismantling the crafting terminal they had made, and shoving it into Xephos' pack, and then attaching her dagger back into the inside of her cowboy boots, and standing up straight. "Ready?" She asked.
The other two nodded and Xephos put his arm forward. The other two grabbed a hold of it.
"Just remember, concentrate. Because we don't want to be spliced. So just focus on not tangling us all together and focus on somewhere random." The fox girl said. He nodded and then closed his eyes. The feeling of air leaving them suddenly made her gasp, just like the last few times she had teleported. They appeared and fell to the ground, sand getting all over them and a dust cloud from the fall floating up.
"Ah my eyes!" Honeydew said, rubbing them.
"Are you ok?" Exza asked, she looked at the other two, thankfully she had managed to shield her eyes first. The other two didn't appear to be as lucky. "Shit didn't you have your eyes closed Xeph?!" She asked, making her way over to the spaceman who was curled up on the floor, yelling in agony.
"I- I had to open them when we appeared! Ah this really stings!" He said, letting the girl help him up to his knees. The dwarf made his way over, happy that the stinging his stopped in his own eyes.
"Let me see?" Honeydew asked.
"I- I can't! It hurts too much..." He answered, still holding his hands over his eyes. Blue light seeped through the gaps in between his fingers, he was in a lot of pain. "I can't open my eyes..."
"Don't worry, Honeydew, get me some water." Exza said.
"I want to but you threw it on the fire!" The dwarf snapped back.
"Didn't you have a bottle in your pack?!"
"Yeah, but its got the littlest bit left."
"That's enough." The fox girl said, pulling the bottle from the dwarfs pack and holding the spaceman's head. "Xeph, you're gonna have to take your hands away."
"Exza my eyes are burning! I can't... It hurts too much."
"Its going to help, trust me..." She said, watching as he slowly took his hands away. "Ok... Now, carefully open your eyes."
"But-"
"You'll be fine, trust me." She watched as he slowly managed to half open his eyes. The blue was so bright that both herself and the dwarf had to shield their eyes for a moment. His eyes were lined with red, and he couldn't open them any more than that. "Ok, tilt your head back a little..."
The spaceman did as told. His face contorting from the pain of the sand. And she poured the water over his eyes. After it was all gone she watched his grip his hands back over his face.
"Its not helping... The stinging has gone but..." He said.
"But what buddy?" Honeydew asked.
"I... I can't see anything..."
