beautiful. i use a d3000, too. did you use any specific pre-set setting for this? My flower macros never look this good.

I used the "close-up" setting (the one with the flower), when there is more light available I use the aperture setting and adjust the f-stop number using the wheel to as small as possible (widest aperture). I also used a telescopic lens and focused on the leaves at the top left. The combination of the telescopic lens and the close up setting result in the large bokeh in the background. I've been practicing this technique the past few weeks and this is by far the best result I've gotten. Hope this helps!

thanks! I've been experimenting with some of the pre-sets, but they all seem to crank the ISO up to 1600 - which makes the darker tones grainy. anyway, thanks for the info, I'll give it a try.

Thank you! I'm just trying to show people that beauty is everywhere - this was just outside my apartment in the middle of a city.

Wonderful shot! I love the way the leaves shine, and that the colour in the bokeh corresponds to them.

Thank you, the sun was setting and provided the perfect light to shine through the leaves veins, and the bokeh was a bit lucky!

Isn't luck always a big part of a great photo?

Of course - I usually don't get lucky in that regard though. I tend to be the person that just missed a great shot or had shaking hands and blurred a great shot. This is the best one out of about 50 pictures I took. I figure the more I take the better chance I'll get a good one!

Okay, just for you, I uploaded an unlucky shot: [link]
The Impala jumped too high, and I missed the top part (the cropping I did cut the empty space below, not above).

Yes I know the feeling - it's so close to being what you wanted to capture. It's still awesome that you got to see these amazing animals though. They don't have those in Wisconsin.

Well, maybe you do
Sometimes while driving to work (or better: Almost every day), I hear warnings about animals running around on the streets.
And sometimes, it's Kangaroos, Llamas (heard that just two weeks ago), Ostriches... One could think I am living in an exotic country. Or Noah's Ark.
