Here is a reference I made for anyone who wants to make Minecraft items. This isn't the only way to do it, but this is how I do it.You need to make sure your texture is 16x16 pixels if you want your items to be the same resolution as Minecraft's. Typically, the border of tool items will be darker than that of item textures depending on what you are making.
