Description Thought I'd speculate on Harry Turtledoves fantastic southern victory series, timeline 191 in which the confederacy are victorious during the American civil war and go on to survive into the 20th century becoming the Centre point for two great wars.

Here I have depicted Confederate forces of the second great war, fresh in their persuit of operation Blackbeard in which the confederates under the Fascist, Freedom party, plan to cut the United States in half by the capture of Ohio, with the hope of forcing a surrender against their Yankee rivals. the plan will however go south (get it) as Confederate forces get bogged down in the Siege of Pittsburgh, a battle entering the annals of history as one of the bloodiest to ever befall mankind.

I have depicted here both a Sargent and a corporal. You will notice that that their uniforms bare many a resemblance to that of the British, mainly because in timeline 191, the confederacy is a historical ally of the British and French. Early on in the war the confederacy is mainly supplied with British uniforms and weapons of which they mark with their own iconography and symbolism.

the two NCOs as depicted here are part of the 5th Georgia volunteers, Nicknamed the Cherokees for their insignia the Cherokee rose, one of the many regiments under the command of George. S Patton, during operation Blackbeard in which combined arms doctrine won them swift victories early war.

the Corporal carries his Lee Enfield No.4 pattern rifle, whilst the Sargent has opted for an M1 Thompson SMG. such weapons were stockpiled during the inter war period, Enfields from British Surplus and Thompson's from the civilian market. These weapons along with the Bren LMG and the Vickers MMG were very popular in confederate hands by the time of Operation Blackbeard.

Unlike the Grey fatigues of the grey shirts ( the armed political wing of the freedom party) the confederate regulars have opted for a Karki brown shade like that of the British, yet still keeping the traditional Southern cap.

so I had fun delving into to some alternate history for a change and hope to read up on the southern victory series. it's nice to visualise the uniforms and equipment of alternate fractions, much like in an osprey book.

hope warlord games take on some of these alternate history ideas and create some wargame miniatures set in these alternate world's
