Description
Bluebell had been feeling down more often lately. The things she and Rin spent their time on felt less and less enjoyable. It wasn’t that she didn’t like Rin, she just felt unmotivated to do much. Sometimes, Blue would spend time to herself, staying inside the Nook and reading or drawing. Rin had been nodding and going along with this, not asking any questions. However, Blue’s mutters of apologies and occasional mentions of not wanting to trouble her had begun to get into Rin’s head. They were friends, right? Was Blue up to something? Rin was certain that that wasn’t the case. She’d rather not consider the alternative: that Blue didn’t like her. Rin enjoyed her company more than anyone else’s. Blue always showed her kindness and helped her often throughout the day. Rin wondered how Blue could trouble her. Another day passed with Blue seeming quiet and avoiding spending much time outdoors. Rin offered to go on a walk with her the following day. They ended up eating snacks under a tree on the walk. Blue was lost in her own thoughts, quietly fidgeting with her paws while they sat there. She felt bad that she hadn’t been around her friend much lately, but she worried that in her downcast state she may bring Rin’s mood down as well. Rin shifted awkwardly in the silence that had fallen over her and Blue. She opened her mouth to speak but Blue spoke first, “Thanks for inviting me out. I should get back to the Nook.” Bluebell began to walk away when Rin called after her.“You don’t spend much time outside anymore.”
“I’m just tired.”
“We can both walk back if you’re tired,” Rin offered quickly.
“It’s okay. I don’t want to keep you from spending time outside.”
“You’re not keeping me from doing things I want-“
Blue had come to a stop at this point. She frowned, annoyed with herself for causing Rin to worry.
“It’s fine.”
Rin watched Bluebell’s retreating form until she couldn’t see her anymore, worrying about her friend.
Later that day, she found Blue with her nose in a book. She sat down beside her, making Blue look up.
“Hey,” the blue wyngling greeted, mustering a slight smile.
“Are you doing okay?” Bluebell just nodded in response.
“How are you?” Bluebell asked.
“I’m okay, I just,” Rin paused for a moment, trying to grasp for words, “I would like to hang out with you more often.. Like before.” Bluebell looked in surprise for a moment.
“Are you sure you want to hang out with me?”
Rin composed herself for a moment, not wanting to answer too quickly.
“Why wouldn’t I? We’re friends.”
“I’m just.. not that good.”
Rin looked at Blue who was looking at the ground in thought. Not good? What did she mean by that?
“I should get some rest, but thanks for talking to me. Sorry for being so down lately,” Blue said, standing up and offering Rin a smile.
“Ah- You’re welcome,” Rin stumbled, taking by surprise at Blue’s response. Bluebell turned the corner to the room she stayed in. Not much later, did Rin decide to head to bed as well, her thoughts on Blue.
