I took this picture during spring break of 2004, when I went to Texas with my then-girlfriend and some of her friends. This picture is another humbling one for me: I have to admire the power and skill of human intellect to create such complex structures, but sometimes modern life just seems too complex for our own good. I think the negative space (if I'm using the term correctly) above the highways is essential to the picture. I feel like it emphasizes our shortcomings before nature ~ the sky is still more immense than anything we have created thus far. The lighting is another enjoyable element of this picutre that I honestly didn't stop to consider when I took it.
