CHAPTER THREE: And now for something completely different.“Mmm, yay!” Amy Rose happily bounced on the thick mattress, giggling as she and Cream began a tiny pillow fight.
Big sat on a low loveseat, just content to be there.
“Amy, where did Mister Sonic go?” Asked Cream suddenly.
“Oh, I don’t know… probably somewhere to buy a fancy ring for when he asks me to marry him!”
As Amy announced this, she tossed a pillow off to her side, and it struck Big, who, puzzled, brushed it aside.
Cream gently and disbelievingly said, “You really think he’d do that?”
“Well, why not?” Amy seemed intent that they were going to be married, regardless of their age and the fact that Sonic couldn’t stand her very presence.
Cream shrugged her petite shoulders, and flung another pillow towards Amy.
The girls soon tired of their pillow fight and settled down.
“So Cream…” Said Amy mischievously, “do YOU like anyone?”
The little girl blushed. “Wh--I…”
Amy’s smile widened. “Come on, I promise I won’t tell!”
“Uh-”
“Big won’t tell either…” She turned towards him as she spoke, “Will you, Big?”
“Nuh-uh.” Big shook his head, long ears flopping.
“Well, uh… “ The tiny girl continued to blush. “Uh, I kinda… like Tails.”
“Ooooh!” Amy squealed, and clasped her hands together. “That’s so sweet!”
Cream’s little head fell, and she smiled sheepishly. “You think so?”
“Oh yeah!” Said Amy energetically. “you two would be so CUTE together!”
Cream smiled broadly, pleased with the news.
Amy scooted from her seat on the bed, and glanced at Cream. “Wanna go get something to eat?”
Cream cocked her head. “Shouldn’t we wait for Mister Sonic to get back first?”
Amy waved this aside with a hand.
“He’ll be here by the time we get back. C’mon!”
Cream looked at Big, who stood, eager to get some food.
“Okay. Come on, Cheese!” The tiny Chao stirred from his nap on the windowsill, and joined Cream, Amy, and Big as they left the room.

The next morning, Tails and Knuckles had located a local diner, and were having a quick meal while they waited for Sonic to finish sight-seeing. Tails sipped quietly at a juice box, while Knuckles pondered if they served alcohol.
“Hey, Knuckles…” Said Tails suddenly. “Sonic’s been gone a long time, hasn’t he?”
Knuckles shrugged.
“Someone should probably go make sure he’s not in trouble or anything…”
Knuckles, knowing where Tails was headed, slid out of the leather booth seat and glanced back at the little fox.
“Fine, I’ll go look for him.” His voice dripped irritation, but he knew as well as Tails did that Sonic was prone to attract trouble.
“Thanks, Knuckles. I’ll catch up with you in a minute.”
Knuckles inclined his head slightly and left the diner.
‘I really hate not going along, but I’m just too busy…’ Tails leaned back in his seat, straw hanging from his mouth.
‘I just can’t shake the feeling that something really bad’s gonna happen…’
He closed his eyes and sighed.
‘I hope Sonic’s okay…’
A bit later, Tails had left the diner, on a mission of his own; to investigate his gut feeling.
Tails’s gut feelings usually weren’t wrong, so he made a point of finding out what caused each one.
This was no different. Something really bad was about to take place, and he wasn’t going to just sit there and do nothing about it.
Though, truth be told, he had no idea where to start.
He stood on a sidewalk in the middle of the city, gazing at what little sky could be seen for all the buildings.
‘Well, lemme see…’ he thought as he walked, scarcely noticing his surroundings. ‘Maybe the hotel has something to do with it…’
He bit his lip. ‘I wonder who else is staying there… maybe--’
He didn’t get to finish the thought, as he was rudely interrupted by a random car’s sudden force ramming into him.
He collapsed and rolled like a broken doll. The car chased off around the corner, taking no apparent notice of him.
At that moment, a girl turned the corner and shrieked, running to Tails.
She knelt by him.
“Oh my God, are you okay?!”
He didn’t answer. She rolled him over gently to look at him.
“Someone! Help!” She shouted in panic. “Call an ambulance!”
***
‘…Huh…?’
‘Where am I…?’
Bright blue eyes eased open, and then tightly closed again due to a sudden invasion of white light.
“Oh, thank God!” A voice said from somewhere in the room; a soft, almost musical, and definitely feminine voice.
High heels clopped against tile floor. The voice spoke again, from his right side.
“Can you hear me?”
“Yeees…” Moaned Tails painfully. Every bit of him ached.
“Oh, good!” She sounded relieved. “The doctors all say you’re really lucky… you only bruised a couple of ribs and--”
“Uh, excuse me, but…” Tails again opened his eyes, this time able to keep them open. Above him stood a beautiful young girl, a bat. She looked no older than Sonic.
“Who are you?”
“Oh, I’m sorry! My name’s Tekno. It’s a pleasure meeting you, though I wish it were under different circumstances…”
Tails smiled slightly. He felt he could trust her.
“It’s okay… uh, thank you…” He mumbled, and she smiled.
“Oh, it was nothing. I mean, there was no way I was just going to leave you there.”
She cocked her pretty head a bit, her long, glittering violet hair swishing beside her as she did so.
“May I ask what happened?”
Tails shook his throbbing head a bit. “I don’t remember… I was walking down the sidewalk, and--”
He suddenly remembered, and shot up, immediately regretting having done it. Pain shot through his tiny body, and he yelped sharply and fell back onto his pillow. Tekno cried out in surprise, and laid a hand on his little chest.
“Please don’t do that, you could really hurt yourself!”
“But… Sonic… wait--”
“What? Were you looking for someone?”
Tails took a deep breath as the pain subsided a bit.
“I was looking for something…” A thought struck him. “How long have I been here?”
“Uhh…” She consulted a gemmed wristwatch that hung loosely about her slender arm.
“A couple of hours…”
“No!” Tails wanted to kick himself. By his own inability to pay attention to where he was going, he had wasted precious hours in a hospital. And the bad thing could have already taken place.
“Uh, Miss Tekno, I really need to go--”
“Don’t be ridiculous!”
He looked incredulously at her. She stared back a moment.
“You’re in no shape to leave.”
“But I need to find my friends! Something really bad may have happened to them!”
“I’m very sorry, but you can’t leave just yet. However…” she turned and took a few steps to the door, revealing a long, slender waist and generous curves, all rather blatantly revealed by a very short, glittering dress.
“I could go search for them myself, if you like.”
Tails felt a bit deflated. “I really appreciate it, but…”
She sighed and walked back to him, and gently touched his cheek with her hand.
“…Stay here, okay?” She said in an almost motherly tone.
“…” Tails eyes fell to his stomach. “…Okay.”
“Now,” She said, not moving her gaze from his, “Who do you want me to find?”
