i've been there and it's a very beautiful~ however, this only seems like it could be another postcard...if you could've done it at a different point-of-view, this would have shown that there was something even more to the place then just this~

I think it was a mill. In Sorrento (and the close towns, i.e. Meta, Piano, SantβAgnello) there were in all five mills; during the centuries these building have been modificated: this one (in Sorrento) is the best-preserved one.

I'm sorry, I can't believe I'm actually answering so late!
It was used for wheat, and the water from the hills and the spring water stoked the sawmill annexed to the mill.
The sawmill was used to knead wood (cherry tree, olive tree and walnut) for marquetry (an art for which Sorrento is famous).
Anyway, it's not a stupid question, and I'm always glad to talk about my beloved town
