It's a lot of fun. The lower levels, as stated before, can be pretty trollsome. My advice to you; don't go on there expecting to have intelligent conversations.
The game is better balanced than a lot I've seen. Paying real money for the game doesn't give you some ungodly bonus as in a lot of download-to-play games I've tried. It's honestly the only one I've cared to continue to play for more than a month.
It does give you pretty skins for your characters, real money that is. Purely aesthetic though. If you get skins, people generally expect more out of you.
If you just start out; I'd suggest looking up guides on certain champions via solomid or something.
The champions you see available to you will change every month, until you buy them with either real money (RP) or in-game earned money (IP). We get a cycle of free champions every week. I would suggest trying them in a free week before spending RP on them.

Well, as long as it's FREE, i guess i will check it out then. I'm just paranoid about getting any viruses on my pc. I use this thing for flight school and if anything ever happened to it I'd be screwed and really ticked.

Ah, I understand that completely. I've downloaded the thing on two of my computers, and I have never had a problem with viruses before, after, or during it. I've also know a fairly good amount of people who have downloaded it and haven't had an issue either.

yeah, i looked up some gameplay on youtube and come to find out I have seen it before when a friend showed it to me, but I had no idea what it was. Looks decent, but I don't know if I'd be interested in it. It resembles tower defense games to me too much, but i'll check it out. Thanx for the info.
