I have to characters, Male and Female. The Male is Hr 9 and the Female hunter is Hr 8.

I have only taken down the akantor about 4 times and stopped there as I'm too scared to fight that thing and the Ucambulas will no doubt be harder! lol
I want to get the full Yama armor before trying to unlock ucambulas. I always try to get a few complete armor set of armors before trying to unlock more monsters.

i had fully upgraded akantor when i went against ucambulas with the ImperialGunHammerSpark and my friend took the divine fire blade and we killed it in 20min but now if i get all 4 off my friends the quickest iv done with them is 7min ^^

Eh I've actually played the first one. Idk how its improved but I didn't like the customization in the original (not very good) and I just tend to dislike that style of game. I liked turn based rpgs.

I played the demo of the original game on ps2 and did not like it lol
It was after playing monster hunter freedom on psp that got me hooked. It too about 6 weeks for me to pass the learning curve on the game though lol. I had serious trouble beating a Yian kutku lol.Looking back, that monster is so easy to beat now that I am shocked it took me six weeks. lol
The game requries serious patience...not everybody has that. Trust me though, the payoff is good.
