That is awsome! I love all the grung look. And the arm growing out of a pot is sooo creative I never would have thought of something like that!

I love the simplicity of this, coupled with the dark rich tones makes a very dramatic piece!
Nice work!

Definatly so, empty space if used well can crates a rich heavy atmosphere and add drama. as you have in your work to great effect.

Yeah. And to overload an image with textures just takes away from the message itself.

Yeah thats pretty much the reason i now use little or no colour at all in my paintings.
I like to get my images across without having to rely on things such as complimentry colours and other such simple eye catching tricks. If i can do that in black and white using only tones, composition and attension to detail then i know im doing something right.

Absolutely. I do the smallest amount of tuning and tweeking of mainly color to complete an image. Too many people rely on heavy textures. I used to go crazy when I first discovered textures too, but now I find it slighty disturbing.
And the paintings or digital arts that I find the most to my liking are the ones with the lesser amount of different colors, but a thousand shades within the same color scheme.

LOL yeah i think weve all been the same once we discoverd how to use textures effectivly.
I know ive done it in my earleir photomanips, Overloaded them with the same old 'grungy' textures and relied on them to carry the strength of the work.
I dont really do any manip work now as I want to keep my gallery here for my paintings only, plus my photo page for just my photos. I could always open a seperate page i suppose just as an excuse to do some more manips sometime.
Yeah i definatly agree with you that 'muted' colour schemes with rich tonal value are the way to go!

Indeed. And textures, if used, in moderation.

Absolutly! textures are great but like you said in moderation,
theres too much 'work' on DA thats just basically a photo thats been plasterd with textures.

Exactly! I can't stand that. And of course a following artist comment: "I was bored. Did this in 15 minutes". That's the worst thing I can read.

LOL yeah! exactly! whats the point in posting something like that, some of the stuff ive seen under manips i would question the '15 minutes' as i cant take that long to add a filter then add a texture layer over that?

IreneLangholm In reply to papaspaulding [2007-09-04 19:45:26 +0000 UTC]
Yes, that's a mystery to me as well. What's the point in having a gallery, making art if it's something you do when you're bored? Where's the passion?
In my opinion, taking a stock photo, only adding texture is theft. In fact it's a violation of dA policy taking credit for another persons photography (cause it's per definition not a manip). I see it everywhere.

Yeah sadly i see it too often. The really sad thing is that I used to think that it was just kids, got a pirate copy of photoshop from a freind at school rushed home, changed the colour slightly on someones stock art then posted it as their own.
Sadly thats not always the case as many ive seen are by people in their 30's-50's that should know better, and claiming there proffesional photographers and digital artists no less!

Oh yes, there is no age limit for ripping. But no doubt that the majority of the ones that are doing this are people in their teens.

Yeah i think the majority are teens that just havnt learnt any manip skills yet and think that running someone elses artwork through the filter gallery is digital art!

Haha, I love this. It reminds me of a picture [maybe it was a painting?] I saw in a book once..it was several pairs of shoes lined up by a door, and the last pair was just a pair of feet.

Right?

Thank you.^^ I see the image purely as humorous, but the title has a certain meaning to it. Basically it sucks growing up. The world seemed so different when we were kids.
