Description
Breakfast that afternoon was…How to describe it… Ano… Uh, hmmm… Ah, the Hell with it: breakfast that afternoon was pure Hell. Marcus had forgotten to shut the door when we came home last night and all eight of my pets had escaped and pressure was starting to build up in my stomach more and more frequently, so I was in an almost constant state of discomfort. And let us not forget the fact that Michael-kun was very upset with me and would take out a chunk of the kitchen table that he was gripping whenever I spoke to him, Roxy was flirting with Marcus who looked straight up confused and slightly frustrated about his new diet, both the wolves sitting at my table were both prone to heat exhaustion very quickly so they were both getting angry much easier than usual.
However, nothing I have said yet was the true reason why Seth and I were on edge: Seth's mother had called earlier to tell us that she was stopping by to… see how her soon-to-be grandchild was doing. And I was a nervous wreck.
"M-Michael-kun, would you be so kind as to clean up the living room for me?" I said as I hurriedly made breakfast for the two wolves. I heard another crunch then a "humph" before I felt him bolt from the kitchen. I sighed, now having another thing to do, and began to sand down the table with my hands.
"Um… Kyuu…?" Seth asked tentatively.
"Nani?"
"Those eggs on the stove…"
"EEP!" I rushed over to the stove to save my eggs just before they started to burn.
"Kyuu! What the fuck is up with you today!?" Roxy asked as I served the wolves their eggs and bacon. I went back to sanding down the table and began prattling off my long list of what was wrong.
"Um… Kyuu?" Seth asked again.
"NANI!?"
"No one can understand what the fuck you just said, dumbass!" Roxy answered. I had not realized I was speaking in Japanese. I spluttered.
Marcus sighed as he stood. "She said 'Oh, nothing is wrong besides the fact that my stomach hurts and you guys are just making my life harder by not getting off your own lazy asses to help me! Not to mention the fact that Michael-kun hates me and Clearwater-san is coming by later and is probably going to hate me for getting pregnant when her own son is just a child! And I am so tired of being hated by everyone! My pets have all run away because Mar-kun forgot to shut the damn door and my house is a disaster area. You two wolves are in foul moods, not that you can help it, and I have to walk on eggshells because everyone in this house is prone to temper-tantrums: Michael-kun because he is not an only child anymore, Seth-kun and Roxy-chan because it is so damn hot outside, Roxy-chan because she is just ending her menstrual cycle, and Mar-kun because I want him to eat animals! I do not know what you guys do not understand about not giving me too much to be stressed over, but you are certainly doing a damn good job of ignoring that! Thanks so much!'" As Marcus translated my rant, he had pushed me into a chair.
I truly wanted to burst into tears, I could not believe how absolutely… bitchy… I had been.
"Done." Michael called flatly from the living room. "Should we get rid of the table before the whelp's mother comes? I'll buy you a new one tomorrow, Okaa-san. German-made and everything. Consider it my gift to you and the baby. I'll send you my address with it."
"Address…?" I shot into the living room. "What address? I already know your address… Your address is here…"
"Yeah, well… I think it'll be easier for you guys if I leave, ya know?" The boy started up the stairs. "Besides, you keep inviting people to stay here. There's not going to be enough room for all of us… And I would like to see Germany again… I liked it there…"
I ran up to him, hugging him from behind and pulling him as close to me as possible. I wished, then, that I could cry. By all means, tears should have been streaming down my face and onto his head. "Onegai… do not leave me… onegai…" I mumbled into his hair.
"Maa, maa, Okaa-san, it wouldn't be for long. I just need some time. It's...painful to be here sometimes. Everyone has someone here. Besides, I've only been a 'vegetarian' for twenty years. It gets difficult with so many humans."
"Hai." I hugged him tighter before letting him go. "But please… come back soon… I miss you when you are not around…"
"Okaa-san...I'm going to miss you, too. I'll have my cell phone with me, call me if ANYTHING goes wrong. I love you and... omedetougozaimasu (congratulations)." He turned and hugged me tightly. "I never thought I would be missed until I met you."
I chuckled, mussing his hair. "No one in their right mind could not miss you, Aisoka (beloved son)." I smiled down at him. "And do not worry. You are the first one I am calling."
"I guess that means Seth and Marcus aren't in their right minds. What a shame, it isn't any fun to argue with those with lower cognitive abilities. It's probably a good thing I'm leaving though. How would you explain me to Seth's mother?"
I laughed out then. "Oh, I would just tell her that I adopted the most wonderful little boy because I just could not resist how adorable he was. As a mother herself, I am very certain that she would have understood…" I gasped and lightly gripped his shoulders as the pressure started to build in my stomach again.
"You okay?" He asked, grabbing my upper arms. I nodded as I extended my stomach a little. "M-maybe I should stay here in Forks. I'll ask Carlisle and Esme if I can stay at their place..."
"That would put me more at ease…" I smiled at him again. "But do not worry about me. You do whatever you want, Michael-kun…"
"I'm staying here. At the rate this is going, you'd probably give birth before I'd even landed."
My smile brightened as I hugged him again. "Hai…"
Roxy growled from the kitchen. "Would you guys kindly shut the fuck up!? You're making me sick! Stupid shit-fuckers…" I chuckled again. The wolf-girl wandered into the living room and leaned on my shoulder. "Now, little idiot, why don't you go sit down and let us take of everything, alright?"
"Please, Kyuu-san. Just relax." Marcus said has entered the room as well.
"Sandy, why don't you go get Kyuu a pair of your shorts and one of my big shirts…" She fingered my sleeve. "This thing looks like it's gettin' a little tight on her."
"Sure." Seth walked into the living room, drying his hands. He grabbed my hand and gently led me up the stairs and into our room to get changed.
Seth went into Roxy's room to get her only long, baggy shirt - a black thing that said "Keep staring, I might do a trick" in big white letter - while I shuffled around in his drawers for his smallest pair of shorts, which he had grown out of about a month ago. I pulled them on under my cheongsam and was just pulling out of it as Seth walked in.
"Here ya go, love." He said, watching the silk dress slip to the floor. "One enormous shirt for your expanding belly."
"Sank yuu." I said as he pulled the shirt down over my head, then gave me a long, passionate kiss when I popped out of it.
I smiled when we parted, both of us a little winded, then pulled my hair into a spiky bun before going back downstairs.
I sat down on the couch and watched the scene contently; Michael and Marcus were helping each other fix my table (though Michael looked a bit nervous), Roxy was busy shoving things into closets, and Seth was rearranging everything so it was all in place. Not knowing what else to do, I picked up one of Roxy's books - The Host - before it, too, was swept away and began reading it.
"Go keep your mother company." I heard Marcus say. I almost thought he was talking to Seth, to try and stall his mother outside, but then Michael bounded into the living room and launched himself into my lap, where he curled up comfortably. I chuckled as I smoothed his hair back.
"Nervous?" He asked, poking my bulge then looking up at me.
"I am a complete wreck." I smiled, placing my hand on his, pinning it to my stomach.
He hesitated a moment. "What're you going to name it?" I could practically feel the interest peaking of everyone else in the room.
"Seth-kun and I discussed that this morning actually. He is going to pick the boy name and I am going to pick the girl name."
"Link." Seth said, putting water in a vase. "If it's a boy, he'll be Link."
"Hai." I said happily. Link was a lovely English name meaning "leader." I almost laughed at the irony of a member of a wolf pack picking a name that meant "leader."
"And you, Okaa-san? Have you picked the girl name yet?" Michael asked tentatively.
"Hai. It is…" I looked at Michael lovingly then chose a different answer. "a secret." I winked at him.
"Hmph." Was all he said.
I felt Seth tense then turn towards the door. "She's here." He said, going to answer it as the bell rang. Roxy and Marcus joined us in the living room as Seth walked in, leading his mother gently by the hand.
