Description
So, there's this contest on DeviantArt right now called "Cosmic Corsair" Which meant making a Space Pirate
So what did I do...?
I made a giant monster that happened to ALSO be a space pirate
Hey! If Ridley from Metroid, who is a Literal Space DRAGON mind you, can be hired as a Space Pirate, who's to say an Alien crustacean can't?!

The designing process of this creature began with a Pole on my account

This pole was to decide which of the 11 aliens I would use for this contest
No one voted... On DeviantArt, that is!
However, the good people of Discord were quicker to vote, and sure enough, number 4 was the winner, with number 8 being a close second.

Then came the actual designing part of this alien.
I drew out the head, and it looked significantly better than the head I used for the pole
Then I thought about drawing the body. That, in it of itself, was fairly difficult to do.
When thoroughly looking at the head, the more it looked like the large, jagged fins on Draaklor's face, and head kinda resembled a pirate's hat, and I kinda rolled with that motif, making the fins along his back look like a pirate's coattails and collar, and then the rest of the other details followed soon after.

When it came time to color this beast, I tried different methods.
I tried printing the whole thing out and coloring it via colored pencil, and as nice as it looked, there were some instances where I colored sloppily, didn't mix the colors right, so I said, "Screw that noise!" and went to try to color it Via the computer program, GIMP.
After watching a few tutorials on how to select by color, and use gradients, all the pieces started coming together!
Throw in a background, and flag I drew in MSPaint, added some textures, and filters, and what we're left with is a badass space monster, and crossed fingers!

Now that I'm with the creation process, let's get into the lore of this great space-aged beast!
Draaklor comes from a race of highly evolved, alien crustaceans, who have earned the title of "Water Devils" For not only do these creatures look downright evil, but their species were known to head inland, and raid nearby coastal villages on their home planet.
Over time, Draaklor grew restless, and greedy, and heard that other worlds possessed much more bounty than his home-world. So he stowed away on a ship, massacred most of the crew, and headed out to find fortune, and food... mainly meat...

Now, let's talk about the 3 key things about this character's main traits, as was selected for this Contest.

1: Family Crest/Symbol
Not much of a Family crest but more of a personal symbol of power. This symbol is a personal one for Draaklor, for it is a reminder of his first hunt, his right of passage, when he hunted down, and slew one of his species' greatest predators, with a spear through the back of the beast's head. Draaklor immortalized this moment as the symbol of his power, that he, himself is the Apex Predator!

2: Lucky Cap/Charm
As mentioned earlier, the "Cap" on his head are fins that give the appearance of a hat, but he does have a nice collection of personal bling that he acquired from many of his galactic conquests! Two of these items are ones that he forged himself, both being his necklaces. one forged from the tooth of the monster he'd killed, and the other being a pendant with the symbol that recreates the killing blow!

3: Trusty Weapons
He has a plethora of weapons, all forged from a special type of coral, strong as steel, and can hold quite the edge. Sure he may wield an ax on more than one occasion, but he has plenty of more weapons with his enemies' names on it.
