Description

She is the one that still known as the mark of the oldest Islamic trace in the land of Nusantara. The dating on her tombstone points to the year 475 AH or around 1082 AD. Living during the civil war between Janggala and Kadiri. Kadiri Kingdom under the authority of Sri Jitendrakara (his name is recorded on the Mataji inscription dated 1051 AD issued by his majesty). While Janggala was under the authority of Sri Samarotsaha (his name is recorded on the Sumengka inscription dated 1059 AD issued by his majesty). The title Syahidah is clearly engraved on her tombstone, without the addition of any other title.

Born, lived and died in Leran (Ler-an, place of the northern people). Ler is a form of refinement in Javanese grammar for Lor. Lor means north, referring to the people of the Lor tribe who came from the northern region (Lorestan, Persia). The Lors is a Muslim tribe that has long lived along the northern coast of Java, side by side and even hostile to the Kahuripan Kingdom during the reign of King Airlangga. After Kahuripan split into two and a civil war broke out, the Leran region was within the scope of Janggala's power.

It was not easy to be a Muslim in the middle of the conflict at that time. But after hundreds of years, at the time of Singhasari Kingdom, Leran became a Sima district (independent land exempt from taxes) because there was a tomb where Rahyangta Kutik (a great figure who was sanctified)rested, marked with the Leran Inscription (issued around the 13th century AD, no dating found so it is not known which King issued it). A figure identified as the Syahidah.

The status of the sacred region for Leran was maintained and became one of the shelters for many Muslims, until hundreds of years later came Shaykh Maulana Malik Ibrahim at the late era of the Majapahit kingdom to continue the legacy of the Lor Muslims in Nusantara (tombstone of Shaykh Ibrahim dated 882 AH). Until now, the great tomb of the Syahidah still stands strong and can be visited in Leran, Manyar subdistrict, Gresik regency. Indonesia.
