Scenes from the Sil-Mer-illionAfter the death of Míriel, Finwë and Indis had to request permission from Manwë to marry. Míriel, in the Halls of Waiting, had to affirm that she did not wish to be re-embodied but when she did so Finwë and Indis were given leave to marry. Indis thus became the stepmother to Fëanor, who was not best pleased.
