<< Part Four || Part Five || Part Six >>
After their little mix up with Shani and her mare, Simon had taken to talking to her, just to keep himself entertained. Because he totally wouldn't do it for any other reason. Course not. He had made sure to apologise properly for Khan's behavior, of course, and had then gone on to explain how he was a big softie really. All while the stallion made sure to keep his ears pinned and to nip at his rider's clothing whenever he got a chance. But it didn't put the man off, and he simply ignored him. He was used to his steed's bad mood anyway. And it was nice for him to have company after the long rider over with only a deranged horse to talk to.
It was Khan who saw Charmer first. He would recognise the mare anywhere. They had met before on a few occasions for training and an attempt to get Khan to socialise with horses other than his beloved Midas. They had asked for Charmer because they mare had a formidable attitude and wasn't about to put up with any of Khan's shit. But that said, he hadn't learned his lesson, and when he spotted that white and chestnut coat, his ears dropped to his skull. Simon was busy tacking him up when he noticed. They were meant to be setting off that day, and every horse seemed excited, so he ignored it. Well, until he mounted and tried to follow along with everyone else. That was when Khan took his moment and jogged through the crowd of horses over to the mare, head held high, snorting at her.
"Making friends, everywhere you go," Simon growled at him, then offered yet another apology.
The ride was long and hard, and even the large stallion was tired by the end of it. Of course, he still had the energy to pull faces at Charmer as he walked. They had taken to walking together, Simon rather happily chatting with his new friends while he kept half an eye on his stallion, who despite his foul mood, was behaving rather well around the two mares. They all seemed glad for the break when it finally came, and Simon slid off Khan's back as soon as he could to stretch. He snatched his saddle bags and sleeping mat from the horse's back first to get some food and sort himself out somewhere to sleep at the edge of the mass group of horses and riders. He didn't want to be dealing with the masses. Not when he was so tired.
He was quite happily chewing on an apple when Khan gave him a shove. Si ignored him at first, thinking he was simply hungry, but then the stallion snatched at his shirt and pulled him close. Going to try and shout at him, Simon span round to confront the stallion, but that was when he felt it. The whole world seemed to shake, and a horrid sound echoed around on absolutely nothing. That, combined with the sound of worried horses and people, was deafening. But Khan kept his cool. He stood strong over the shaking, and snatched at his rider again. Finally getting the idea, Simon damn near leaped onto the stallion's back, not even having the time to get his stirrups before the ground suddenly started to fall out from under them. A few screams sounded as horses spooked and riders fell, but Khan made no sound as he did the almost impossible. The stallion was fearless in that situation, and when the ground under them started to crumble, he reared up and managed to leap back out of the way. Simon only just managed to grab onto his reins in time to keep himself steady.
And then it was over almost as soon as it had started. Everything returned to normal, and people started to calm and look around to check the damage. It was almost silent for a moment, and for once, Simon was speechless. His mount looked back at him then, and for a second, they shared a glance and a feeling of mutual respect and understanding. The stallion had little hope of finding Midas again at the end of this is he didn't have Simon, and the man wouldn't get to his family again with Khan, so they would look after each other, because in the end, they both wanted the same thing.

Everywhere you go, just making friends I understand Khan perfectly right now
Well, I'm glad that Khan and Simon have reached an understanding (even though Khan was being a showoff). Still, I'm hoping they can see their family again.
