On a distant Earthlike planet, one of the dominant species was once some sort of creature that looked vaguely like bunnies, except they were as large as allosaurs and had a similar apetite.
They were overrun 14000 years ago when trying to prey on a newly evolved species that learned how to make bows and arrows. Their modern descendants still have the genetic disposition to be wary of their ancient foes.
However, they also live over 6.5 billion light years away and probably haven't heard of the Milky Way Galaxy other than as one of hundreds of billions of galaxies their best telescopes have picked up. So they probably haven't seen your tentacled bunnies.
