Description This photograph was taken this time last year on the Chilkat River near Haines, Alaska. I was there to see the world's largest congregation of wild bald eagles (as many as 4,000 will gather here during the salmon runs), but this raven taking flight caught my eye.

Thank you so much - what I love about this one is that it's not B&W... that's an accurate representation of the "color" that day. Glad you liked it. Thank you for taking so much time in my gallery, and all your wonderful comments!

After running into a huge raven in Arizona, they have become tied as my favorite bird. Great capture

They are indeed lovely, talented, sometimes scarily smart birds. And thanks for the compliment on the photo.

Thank you. It was that sort of day all-round. I love mist for just that reason.

Thank you. Black and white is really only a small shift from color on a day like that, and I liked the crispness it gave to the image.

The low, misty clouds are a great effect with the dark, barren trees, and the mountains. It's really almost a contrast of purely black and white. I like it.

Atmosphere atmosphere atmosphere. I absolutely love this shot, it's just utterly stunning

Composition is spot on, from the spooky trees at the bottom, to the middling mist, and the soaring peaks at the top.

The eagle just gives it that edge of life it needs.

Really, really love this one

Thank you for your kind words.

It is indeed an awesome sight. I'm trying to decide on whether or not to post one of the eagle shots that I took that day. At my best count, there are 26 eagles in it, but the funny thing is that when I initially took the photograph, I thought there were only a few... the rest looked like tree stumps until I saw the image full size.
