"I'm sorry, we're going where?"

Stormy's muzzle wrinkled in disgust. The Far North? The land was uninhabitable! Not to mention the freak storm supposedly blowing in. Tidal frowned at the fellow bay's answer, "you're one of the strongest imps in the warren besides Decipher. And yes I know no imp likes him, but the master is fond of him. We will not freeze him to death on this exploration." He opened his mouth to retort, but Tidal's snarl had him shut his jaws abruptly. "We will take Atomic with us, she's strong as well. We will need the best of our warren to tackle this." She turned around, the large dire following suit without a word of complaint. Stormy rolled his eyes and took a look around the cozy home one last time before following the other two imps.

The trek up was uneventful, with not much chatter exchanged between the three imps. When the party passed through Snowdrift Forest, things became peculiar. Tidal's whiskers twitched as she lifted her head to take in the scent of the surrounding area. Her muzzle crinkled as she picked up the scent of a storm brewing on the horizon. There was also the faint smell of something else she couldn't quite place, it smelled familiar yet . . . so incredibly wrong. Her hackles rose and her breathing quickened before she forced herself to calm down. The other two did not remark on her behavior, distracted with the lack of sound and life. "Are we really gonna do this? This place gives me the creeps" Stormy said. He never got a reply as Tidal lumbered forward into the wastes without a sound, the other two imps close behind.

The Far North really did live up to the nickname of the Frozen Wastes. The first mile was glaring sunlight on the harsh snow, and the bright light assaulted Stormy's senses. Thoroughly snowblinded, he leaned next to Miss Atomic in silence. The dire didn't remark on his odd behavior and continued further into the wasteland. The clear weather became sparsely cloudy, to cloudy and a small bit of snow, and eventually to a full out blizzard within a hour. Miss Atomic stood strong against the buffeting weather despite its attempts to knock her down. Stormy, with the now dark light, moved away from the wall of fur and muscle to the winds, and then promptly getting blown on his rear. With a growl he stood back up to take on the challenging winds. The trio stood strong and kept traveling onward, the idea of bringing back the first riptide being their sole but powerful motivation.

The bay grumbled as he trudged through the bustling snow, the heavy thickness of it rendered him near blind. One of the two other imps he was with, a large ankara dire, piped up. "Well sugar, if you stuck closer to us maybe you wouldn't be so cold." She stopped and shook the snow from her thick coat, the sheer cold of the frozen wastes slicing through even it like a frigid knife. Stormy begrudgingly trotted back to the other two imps and huddled against Miss Atomic, his pride gone on his quest for warmth. Their matriarch, Tidal, glanced back with that odd look she always wore. Whether she was amused or not was masked behind that trademark resting bay face. With a huff, the group started back up on their quest to find the legendary riptides that lurked beneath the ice.

An agonizingly cold hour had passed as the party ventured further into the riptide territory. Miss Atomic shivered, her patience had worn thin. With suppressed frustration, she asked, "Tidal honey, are you sure we're going the right way to find these . . . Riptides that strange man was talking about? We've been out here for awhile." Stormy growled in agreement, "my toes are trying to become ice beans and I'm not thrilled with it." Tidal stopped abruptly and turned around. With a level face, she answered, "We will find them when they choose to be found. The man said they were here so they must be here." She started her miniature warren back on their frozen quest, the other two imps not pleased with this answer.

Miss Atomic was fed up. Her normally pleasant demeanor was replaced with anger and distress. The dire contemplated requesting to stop for a rest, when suddenly, Tidal stopped, nose in the air. The dire looked on confused, before she picked up the scent too. Never before had she felt such fear overwhelm her. Stormy pressed against her side, although she couldn't tell if his shaking was from the cold or if he too was afraid of what she had scented upon the winds. Tidal went charging into the snow, her cry of excitement echoing back;

"Riptides! They must be near!"

[Exploration Results]  Tidal's call for Riptides gave the imps incentive to move forward.  But it wasn't enough.  A large gust sent Stormy careening backwards into Miss Atomic, Tidal racing forward to catch the pair.  A howling wind was all the warning before ice and snow sliced through the air to strike out at the imps.  With one last longing look at the Wastelands, Tidal pushed the other two imps back the way they came.

Your imps have returned home safely.
