Unlike the other three alicorns, Cadence was born a pegasus. Celestia tutored Cadence nearly everyday to teach her to get control of her horn and magic. While Cadence is not the most powerful, her magic can last longer than most, which is how she kept the barrier around the Crystal Empire for so long.

When the crystal ponies shouted “the Crystal Princess has returned” after Cadence saved the Crystal Heart, they weren’t wrong. Cadence is actually a descendant of the royal line of crystal ponies. When the Crystal Empire disappeared, everyone forgot about their lives, including Cadence and her parents.

Cadence’s parents died at a young age, leaving her in the care of Princess Celestia. She grew up in Canterlot with her family until a fire burned down her home, leaving her the only one left of her family line.

Cadence is one of the youngest turned alicorns in equestrian history, becoming an alicorn as a young teen and only a few years after her parents died, while Celestia and Luna became alicorns closer to Twilight’s age.

Cadence’s magic does not just cover romantic love, but also platonic, familial, and self-love. This is why people tend to feel so comfortable around her, whether they’ve been in her presence before or not.
