Description
The trumpets sounded, telling the jockies and horses were headed to the starting gate. Everyone had their eyes on the horse on position 3, Badger. Everyone was in awe, he was the favorite. He had won the triple crown and now he was the favorite for the Breeder's Cup. He was the great great grandson of the legendary Secretariat and the great great nephew of the legendary Ruffian.Once in the starting gate Badger grew calm. The other horses were a bit... Wild. That's when the bell rang and the gates flew open. The sound of hooves hitting the ground and the sight of dirt flying was heaven for the race horses. And as always, Badger was in the lead, his opponets wasn't able to catch up. He was surging on the inside, towards the rail when the final turn finally came around he broke loose. He surged forward, his strides growing longer and he shot forward. He quickly moved lengths ahead, the announcer yelling, "4 lengths... 7 lengths... 10 lengths... 14... 20 lengths!! Badger has crossed the finish line, winning this year's Breeder's Cup by 20 lengths!" The race was short and Badger had slowed down and was cantering along the track after the race had ended. Another win for Badger!
Badger hasn't lost a single race in his life, he was three years old. When he is four he will retire to become a horse meant for breeding, or so that's what his owner has planned, but maybe Badger won't allow it. Badger's heart is racing, it's what he was born to do, it's in his blood. It's what he was bred to do, as he was the relative of two famous race horses, well race horse legends. With Badger never losing a race in his racing career, he was a legend now. He was a living legend, two racehorse legends lived in him.
Back at the stable after the trailor ride home, Badger was groomed and fed. His stall was also mucked out and the straw was replaced. Water was in his bucket and he was getting the attention he deserved. Life was great here, and he loved it. Badger loved the camera, too. He posed for pictures and he always made some sort of gesture or face. Badger was smart, very smart. This sweet horse was funny too. He was everything an owner would have asked for, but he wasn't always a racehorse.
Badger was born in a stable where every horse was a horse that pulls heavy loads. He was pulling loads even when he was eight months, four months before being a yearling. He was sold to his current owners at age ten months when his original owners business ran out and was in serious need for money. His old owners was cruel but Badger fought through it. He was a strong foal and was trained for racing as a yearling. Once a two year old he enetered his first race... And smashed the records. He won every race, always smashing records. He had his own pace, and refused to back down from a challenge. A whip was never needed for him as he ran at his own pace and did what he wanted on the track, he was the king of the tracks. Badger never lost a race and he was well known, especially at Churchill Downs, Belmont Park and Pimlico Race Course, the tracks that hold the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and Preakness Stakes, races that he smashed records, he destroyed Secretariat's records.
He won the Kentucky Derby by fifteen lengths and crossed the finish line in one minute and thirty-three seconds. He won the Preakness by twenty three lengths in about fifty seconds and the Belmont by fourty two lengths in an unrecorded time. Now he won the Breeder's Cup by twenty lengths, amazing, right?
