Made with JWildfire. I started with a random gnarl3d, tweaked the gnarl position and the viewport, to get a needle shaped array. In Paint.NET I apply the G'MIC-Qt 'charcoal' and 'smooth (thin brush)' filters, cull white pixels, apply G'MIC dream smoothing, copy and gaussian blur a layer underneath, and add a white background.
