Actually, I have a question. When you get the missle power up (fun fun) does it last fer a certain amount of time, or a certain amount of shots?

717 seconds.
This thing is AMAZING.
It's artistic and just.. awesome.
I'll be looking out for your future work!

hooray! that's exactly what I was going for. I just found out 5 minutes ago that this is the highest rated thing on all of newgrounds. that's kind of... ego-stroking.

Yeah, well they never do last long up there. I remember Ragdoll Avalanche II was really high a few weeks ago, and now it has fallen back down.
But still, it definitely means a lot. Good job.

damn near perfect
i liked the music lining up with the first giant ball/asteroid
my only real gripe is that around 700 seconds or so, it gets to the point where you can't shoot fast enough to move the asteroids out of the way of each other, the layers kind of mess up the shots. would be kind of nice if the little turret guys got the shield when you did too.
also, the little turret guys not shooting and having their shots stuck above them seems to have something to do with the space-bar powerful shot thing, if you haven't noticed said reason already.
anyweh, sweet

IvoryDrive In reply to novachild [2006-10-03 02:27:26 +0000 UTC]
I thought I fixed that shot getting stuck above the turret thing.... oh well. not enough people have complained about it for me to really lose sleep over it though.
that's a good idea about the little guys getting the shield along with you, I hadn't thought of that before. I thought about having them spawn with a shield, but in my earlier tests I decided they were too powerful but I think I was wrong.
anyweh, thanks

Amazing game- the physics are great! As a programmer myself, I know that it's not that hard to program, yet the simplicity of it adds to the overall elegance. Excellent game!

IvoryDrive In reply to meeblax [2006-10-02 21:35:37 +0000 UTC]
exactly, this game is pretty simple as long as you understand how to use sine and cosine.

meeblax In reply to IvoryDrive [2006-10-02 22:31:28 +0000 UTC]
And don't forget the all-powerful Math.atan2()!
One suggestion- it is possible to 'cheat' on this game by spending a really long time on the boss, and thus firing more shots. If you had the score as some variation of time/shots fired, it might make it overall more fair and challenging.

IvoryDrive In reply to meeblax [2006-10-03 02:36:12 +0000 UTC]
yeah, well whatever. if I had put the highscore table thing in like armorgames wanted me to, then I'd have fixed that but since all the records are just personal, I figured it wouldn't matter. but yes, you're right about the shotsfired/time thing although I'd probably just make it so that if you spend longer than 10 seconds on the boss, the rest of the balls come anyway.
so I'm curious, what's atan2 for?

meeblax In reply to IvoryDrive [2006-10-03 20:28:10 +0000 UTC]
Oh, it's just a way that you can use tangent much more easily- Math.atan2(y,x), rather than Math.tan(y/x)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
IvoryDrive In reply to meeblax [2006-10-04 00:13:56 +0000 UTC]
I've never actually used tangent before, what kind of applications does it have? I know what it looks like on a graph, but I haven't found a use for it yet.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
meeblax In reply to IvoryDrive [2006-10-04 00:24:45 +0000 UTC]
(I messed up- it's actually the INVERSE tangent)
I've used it to find angles, such as in a shooting game I made before- it can just help rotate turrets and bullets and all that.

axcho In reply to meeblax [2006-10-04 17:27:59 +0000 UTC]
Hahaha! I guess that just shows that you don't always need trigonometry in physics games!
But how did you find the velocity of the balls that you aim with the mouse? atan2() does seem like the obvious way...

meeblax In reply to axcho [2006-10-04 20:54:38 +0000 UTC]
Well, technically a tangent is the sine over the cosine- I would assume the arc (or inverse) tangent is arcsine over arccosine. However, I am not the programmer of this game, and as such, I defer to him to answer this question.
