Description
Hades was the type of handsome dark stranger that all women secretly wished to meet in a dark alley and all mothers warned their hopeful daughters not to fall for. In other words, he was sex incarnate. He felt rather then heard a visitor approach.
Athena? He raised a black brow and smirked. Whatever was the virgin goddess coming to see him for? He disliked Athena for the most part, because 1. She was given the credit for wisdom when really he was far cleverer and 2. she was a extremely attractive virgin goddess. Main emphasis on ATTRACTIVE and VIRGIN.
For now, he added mentally.
Besides, one does not have to like someone to make deals with them.
It was rather funny, he mused, that the silly mortals above managed to discover almost all the different gods' and goddess' secrets and yet they never seemed to pin the correct ones on him. The illusive Hades! They did know about the business with Persephone, but he had meant that to be known. It was fun being out in the open about that. The gods had to cover up the bit where Persephone went on her knees and begged him to take her. Zeus was damn embarrassed about his little girlie. Neither the mortals nor any of the other gods knew, however, about the many affairs with Aphrodite, Hera, or even Artemis for that matter. He smiled. There was a virgin goddess that was not so virgin! Perhaps Athena was coming for the same reason.
He lifted a hand and the dark gates swung open.
Athena came in looking, Hades noted, rather flustered. He smirked and drank from the tall, thin glass beside him. He would let her lead up to the subject herself. She has brains, he thought begrudgingly, (though not as extensive as my own), and would be very subtle about everything. One thing was for certain, though. Athena had some strong reason for coming. She never did something without a supreme purpose.
"Lord Hades," she greeted him nervously. Her heart was beating out of time, he noticed. A curious half-smile slid up the corner of his mouth.
"Lady Athena, to what do I owe the pleasure?" he spoke with a low, sensual voice. After all he invented the word sex. He was leaning with his elbow on his throne's armrest and supporting his head with his hand. His fingers were running casually through his silky black hair. A unconscious smooth movement of the legs caused her eyes to shift there.
Athena's eyes automatically ran up and down the length of Hades' body and noted uncomfortably that his black shirt was loose and partially unbuttoned revealing beautifully toned muscle. His little half smile that could mean any number of things made her skin tingle with multiple sensations. Damn him. He wasn't supposed to be like that. And why the hell was his voice so sexy?
She cleared her throat. Hades calmly crossed one leg over the other. Something formed in her throat and she cleared it again. Athena closed her eyes. Business! Business! She opened them again and spoke immediately before her voice caught again.
"I have come to set before you a proposition," she began.
"Oh have you?" murmured Hades softly, a thousand implications in his voice. He leaned farther back in his throne. God he was good-looking! Athena wondered at once why none of the other goddesses besides Persephone had ever...damn it! Why was she even thinking about this? It was for Arachne she had come. Visions of the girl filled her mind and that sobered her and blocked all the tempting thoughts of Hades' body.
"I need a potion of forgetfullness. A potent potion."
Hades did not look surprised in the least. For all appearances he seemed to think it was rather normal, although Athena knew it wasn't. A very calculated look was in his gaze. "How potent?" he purred. He was interested
"Very potent," Athena made her voice stronger. But that does not mean she didn't think about Hades' sexual allure. "Where's Persephone," she finally blurted. For a wise girl, that comment was not so wise.
Hades smiled and shook his head, making soft 'tsking' noises. "No no, we are not involving my wife in this transaction. Persephone does not have the brains for business. Besides," he added in a monotone, his voice lowering, "She has not come back from visiting her mother yet." He let the words sink in.
Athena said "Oh," with a little too much significance. This was why she trusted Hades the least out of all the gods. It was because she could not trust herself - normally cool and confident - when she was in his hypnotic presence.
"So, who is this potion for?" he asked calmly.
Athena paused. "None of your business," she managed to draw herself up regally with what she hoped appeared to be cold distain.
He laughed. "Athena, I am well known for my ability to keep secrets. Besides," he added dryly, "I'll probably find out anyway." He took a long sip from his glass. She fully appreciated how he licked the moisture off his lips and her own jaw became iron when she realized that she was thinking lewd thoughts again.
"It's...it's Arachne." she admitted finally. It was true, he would find out anyway.
He lifted his face. "Arachne?" his tone was curious but he asked no more questions. "That means I'll have to be careful how potent. Humans are of a remarkably delicate composition-"
"She's no human - not anymore!" Athena snapped. The child was a monster now. Not Human. No, definately not. More like something from hell. She shivered.
Hades arched an eyebrow. "She obviously will be," and then to the flicker of surprise that glinted from her eye, "It is easy to put two and two together, Athena."
"That is why I didn't want to tell you," she muttered.
"So," he purred charmingly, "What do you plan on giving me in return?" There was a slight flection of the hips that Athena convinced herself that she must have imagined. She managed to smile. "My eternal gratitude isn't enough?" Her voice was hopeful but she knew before she had finished speaking that the hope would be dashed.
"'Fraid not." he replied pertly. He wiped some liquid from the corner of his mouth.
"What do you want?" she asked, eyes narrowing.
"For a goddess of wisdom that is a pretty stupid question," said Hades pointedly. "You just threw the ball into my court and now I could demand almost anything, even something highly unreasonable for you to have to agree with." He drank again.
Athena blushed. He was right. Why was she acting so stupid, normally her brain power did not misfunction merely because she was in the same room as an attractive male. "I could simply get some off Hephestus!" she said sharply.
He shook his head, bemused. "Not potent enough."
"Or Aphrodite!"
For some reason that made him grin. "Too potent," he whispered. Oh yes his voice was sexy. He stood and sauntered towards her. "Its not like a goddess, especially one of wisdom, to come here and ask for something without thinking beforehand of the particulars of the transaction," he was so close to her now. She could smell his delicious aroma that filled her ample mind of visions and fantasies, mostly involving him at least partially naked. "So," he breathed softly using his index finger to force up her chin so that her eyes were on his, "What did you have in mind that you are avoiding mention of?"
Athena couldn't think, she couldn't breath. She could feel a thousand sensations tingling on her skin. And it was all because he was touching her.
"Anything," she had never said anything so ridiculous before, and she had never cared so little!
He smiled pleasantly. "Swear on the River Styx?" he whispered, drawing closer. As he spoke, his lips brushed gently against her earlobe. Her heart was pumping against his chest. Her body was waiting impatiently to be pulled against his.
To hell with consequences! "I swear on the River Styx," she panted. Her hands went to tangle themselves amongst his black hair.
"Good," he said, suddenly stepping backwards. His smile was suddenly sinister.
Her heart dropped; panicked. No, he wouldn't.
"I want your title," he said calmly. Smugly. "Wisdom. And everything that comes with it."
"No!" Athena's jaw dropped. "You..." she had sworn on the River Styx. God knows she had not been wise at all in that respect.
He had used her, and she had been so easy to use.
Damn him! Her eyes flashed, and he smirked. He was so handsome it was unfair!
Her fists clenched and she spoke through gritted teeth. "Well what can I say?"
"Nothing I suppose," said the amused Hades smoothly, (by the gods, she was so easy to seduce!) "But I can tell you that my chamber's on the third door along that hall. God knows you've been wanting that information since you've entered."
And the incompentant god grabbed the astonished goddess' arm and led her in the correct direction.
