Incredibly well done, I liked the ending.
Great animation, nice style. I like how you made the lighting in the room darker and more tinted than the rest of the house, it really added to an already great atmosphere. I also like how you made the creature, it was very creepy.
I think you had a few animation problems, though. Nothing really but me being picky.

That was great, you've got an interesting style! I was wondering, did you do the perspective walls in After effects??
The textures and colors were wonderful, and consistent. Nice work!
So this was a piece solely for your studio, not a school or anything??

All the walls and backgrounds were animated in After Effects, using many layers in a 3D space and a camera within the program.
This was actually for my final project for my illustration degree at uni. I'm still waiting for the results. Eeek!
Thanks for commenting.

Ah cool, i thought so, i had only briefly learned about that feature in my after effects class, so its interesting for me to see it being used so well!
Wow, an animation for illustration?? Seems very outgoing, i'm sure you'll do great though, it do well for the animation department, lol
good luck

Very nice work. The concept is clear, the camera angles are nice... I would have preferred the movie to have more of a sense of urgency and closed in spaces... though the initial shot of the boy's room made it looks small, the camera angles you used made it look a lot larger...
I didn't like the voice acting very much... it reminded me of 'frisky dingo'... And the 'monster's' voice could have been doctored to make it sound more menacing, maybe with a leading echo on it...
Overall you have a very burtonesque feel about your work... not a bad thing at all considering his popularity.
Keep up the good work and I hope to see more from you.

Thanks. I too am not completely satisfied with the voice acting, especially the father's voice. The voices just didn't sound that natural to me. I really need professional voice actors. That would be brilliant!
As for the monster's voice, I wanted to make it sound menacing but not over the top. After all the monster is just a little boy. Also, I think it adds to the creepiness of having a vile monster like evil Gregory speaking with a child-like voice. Well that was what I was going for anyway.

you achieved a creepiness for the boy, I will admit to that. my critique of that part was mostly my personal opinion about what I feel is creepy and scary... Whispers you can barely hear, rising from the darkness always gets me...
I'm sure you could find some kind of semi pro actors. There are always community theatre troupes in the states - I should know - I'm sure with a little research you could find a group close to you in the UK.
Best thing about community theatre actors? Most will work for credit... and most others will work for a credit and a cookie.
And some are EXTREMELY good...
I am personally situated to grab a hold of some incredible actors (both child and adult) for a live action horror flick my wife and I have been working on. we can't film until at least 2012 or 2013 (when my group launches the film and animation departments) but my point is still made, lol.

the way you used sound in this was good
I like how they moved like puppets, but were 2-dimensional. Combined with the 3D backgrounds, it created a really creepy affect.
Nice work, congrats on the DD!
