okay, so i'm looking at my original picture, and i'm selecting the lasso tool.
you can use this to make selections on the layer that you are on. use hold down shift while lassoing to add more to your selection,, hold down ALT while lassoing in order to remove what your lassoing (while holdiong alt) from your selection
