Interview: JACAC! Hello my fellow deviants! A long time ago I started a series about my idols and awesome artists here on DA and today I'd like to continue with an interview about a photographers who's images inspire me every time I see them: @JACAC! Erdbeerstern: Hello and thank you so much for the opportunity to have a little chat with you! Your photography has given me inspiration for many years so far so I’m honored to interview you.,That’s the first picture I think of when I think of your dA Account – it’s been on your page for quite a time now and I am so curious about its background story, would you care to tell us a few words how you captured it and if the woman saw you taking the picture? What does she think? JACAC: I am an architect and I am alaways looking for angles, surfaces, materials. I was in Rome in a square and thought that this was a beautiful and very graphic building to make a square photo. Preparing my self to do it when I saw the window opening and i thooght "OH ! no I want the building clean!" But surprise a beautiful girl appeared and sat at the window which allowed the photo to breathe new life, creating humanity and scale. She didn't notice anything... I think.. Erdbeerstern: Speaking of taking pictures and street photography – have you ever been asked by passengers what you’re doing with your camera and how would you reply if somebody wasn’t happy about you taking pictures of her/him? JACAC: It is not normal for people to react to my photos when I am taking them, I am also careful. But I have a curious story. I was in Istanbul in a religious place where I had been warned to be careful when taking pictures.I was sitting on the floor watching and photographing discreetly when I see an imposing man with big beards approaching and who asked me what I was doing !!!!Of course I answered and showed the photos I was taking and he said ... "I want one too!" Erdbeerstern: Show me the first picture (on your dA-page) you were proud of and what you would do different if you had taken this now!,JACAC: This photo was taken maybe forty years ago and is one of my most successful photos both in publications and in contests. It's a photo of life, everything is there, I would do exactly the same Erdbeerstern: How did you get into photography? What do you like about photography so much? JACAC: Since I was a kid (so many years ago) I took pictures and people said they were interesting. When the revolution in Portugal took place and I spent two years without classes at the university, I took a three-year photography course .. and from then on I never stopped.Erdbeerstern: I was incredibly surprised when I first noticed you take staged portrait photography with models as well! (And in such beautiful scenery!) Could you tell me how it is for you working in a different genre of photography (compared to your street & architecture shots)?,JACAC: I was invited several times to do fashion editorials for magazines. There I discovered another world within photography and I dedicate myself to it in the intervals of architecture. But without a doubt, my passion is street photography.Maybe that's why my three published books are always about street photography. Erdbeerstern: What does Deviantart mean to you? JACAC: It means a meeting point where we can see so many different photographers from all over the world. It is a constant learning.Erdbeerstern: When taking pictures, stories come to mind. Is there a story to a picture you would like to share with us? JACAC: It is difficult to answer, because for me every photo has a story ... be it the moment, the character, the setting.,Erdbeerstern: Have you ever met (in real life or deviantart, that’s up to you) somebody who inspired you? If yes, would you like to tell?JACAC: Before answering I would like to say that whenever I travel I try to find someone who is a friend here at Deviantart, I can say that I have already met some and it is an indescribable experience, to see live someone we know so well for the work they do.So I can say that there have been many people who have influenced or inspired me. I didn't like to nominate anyone so I wouldn't fail, which would be an injustice.Thank you so much for this honor! Erdbeerstern: I can also say the same, thank you for taking time to answer my questions ,I hope you enjoyed this interview, if you know someone who's an amazing photographer and traditional artist and who'd like to be interviewed too - send me a note! Also see my last interview with @burningmonk here!
