Jacob has a limit to how much power he can use, once that limit is reached, his dark-side then tries to take over, but Jacob isn't the type to simply give in, he fights back to take control over his own body, but the strain is too much for his own body to handle, and it starts cracking, breaking apart from the build up, it's rare for his dark-side to take over, but most of the time, Jacob is able to take over, but at a cost, he can use any of his dark abilities until his powers stabilize, until then, he can't use his dark abilities without his dark-side taking over...

Raw Darkness : Is wild and uncontrollable in natural, can corrupted and change anything.

Dark Shards/Cores : Act as limiters to focuses raw darkness into more controllable energy.

Light Shards/Cores : Helps to surpress the darkness, keeping everything under control.

When he reaches his limit, his body starts to breaks apart, he can't regenerate himself when he's like this, so all he can do is fight at the level of a human, unable to use his weapons to there fullest, but at least he can still summon them, but at this point, he has to avoid damage or retreat into the light to restore and clam down the darkness.

Jacob was able to make ways to help in these matters, one of which is focusing all his power into a single blase, that means using both his Heavens and Hells cannon into one final attack, but by doing this will completely drain himself of both sides, thus, shutting down, putting himself into a dead trance, unable to wake up until his powers are restored, until then, he's just a shell.
