Description
I have been designing one traditional pumpkin carving pattern a year since Halloween 1996. I typically share after Halloween, so I get the first-crack at the carve pattern, but I do take suggestions for future patterns.... so if you've any suggestions for next year, please share them with me!This is my 2023 pumpkin pattern. I've been wanting to do an Anubis pumpkin since about 2005... but I could never settle on a design. I drafted this one this summer! So... after carving it, I think it's AMAZING to look at... Buuuuuuuttttt.... I think if I were to carve it again, I'd just stick to Anubis and leave the snake and the patterned border out of the equation-- I'd carve the patterned area as a block-out instead.... Yeah, it frames the thing up nicely and looks AMAZING.... but truthfully, it was a PAIN in the booty to carve... and then getting the pattern to mesh around that ear when you fold a flat paper onto a round object. Meh!
This took around 4 hours to carve. I use the pumpkin masters saws-- this one required the use of the smallest saw I have. This is an tricky pattern because of all the small cut-outs and zig-zags for the decorative border and the snake. but may be tricky for those new to carving more detailed patterns. (Difficulty: Experienced Intermediate).... but if you just carve the Anubis head, I'd drop it a degree or two on the difficulty scale.
This is the pattern.
