Description

The mythical coastal city of Mélissa was at the head of the Carthance empire a few centuries earlier. With the gradual decline of the empire due in particular to two civil wars and the rise of the Commonwealth of Perselt, the city sank for a time in anarchy. Faced with a tattered empire, the city's patricians decreed its independence and put to flight the last emperor by founding the Republic of Melissa, and by transforming the imperial palace into an aristocratic senate.
Over the following decades, the city-state flourished, asserting itself as a trade hub, due to its central position within the Enclosure Sea. Today, although put in competition with other emerging cities such as Lutrices, the city retains its aura of prestige and its primordial place in the affairs of the continent, acting as a relay between the various foreign powers. Its deemed impregnable military port houses a formidable war fleet, ready to defend the city at any time, as demonstrated by the routing of the Arindi fleet in the year 1256.
The Melissians worship the sea, and even claim that she is their mother. This cult is perfectly embodied in the immense cathedral built on a polder in honor of this deity.
