This was really my first time working on a background that wasn’t just a second thought and thrown together and I’m pretty dang proud of it! And this was also my first time working on dapples and I LOVE doing them! Never thought I’d say that. With my impatient nature I thought I’d detest them. But nope, love, love, love dem dapples.

" It was a cold, dreary January day when Resolution stepped off the commercial vanner’s trailer and settled into his stall at Double M Acres. All the snow from the previous weeks has melted from a random warm-snap but it was now back down in the low 20’s and chilled everyone to the bone. The only difference now was there wasn’t a pretty white blanket of snow covering the ground. Just brown dead vegetation.

But the depressing weather didn’t sway the new stallion from curiously inspecting his surroundings. His shipping wraps were still wrapped snugly around his legs and the fleece coverings on his shipping halter has slipped slightly in transit, but other than that, the stallion seemed un-harmed. The deep red blanket Aj had sent to his previous owners ahead of time wrapped around the horse warmly and rustled in the wind. Aj who finished dealing with the vanner now lead the stud inside the stable to settle him into his freshly made stall. Resolution followed like a gentleman, even though Aj could tell he wanted to go meet the other horses that crowded the front of their stalls watching the new horse enter. Nugget pinned his ears and screamed a warning cry, smelling the new stallion and deeming him a rival. Resolution snorted lowly, but that was all while Nugget pranced in his stall irritably.

“Don’t mind him.” Aj spoke to the horse whose ears pricked forward at her voice, “He’s just a crabby pants.”

A loud kick was heard from Nugget’s stall directly after Aj’s statement and it made her chuckle. That horse was such a character. Halting Resolution in the middle of the aisle, she quickly cross-tied the horse and got to work unwrapping his shipping wraps and checking his over thoroughly for any cuts or swelling. Finding that the horse was in tip-top shape, Aj breathed out a sigh of relief. Resolution had been hauled half way across the country from the west coast and she’d been anxious for his safe arrival for days now.

Adding another layer to his blanket and slipping a light hood on, she unclipped him from the cross-ties and lead him into a spacious stall next to Erste who had been quietly observing the two. Stripping his halter, Aj stepped out of the box and closed the door and watched Resolution make his way over to the divider between him and the mare. Erste’s pink nose poked up from the other side and Resolution reached up to sniff the other horse. Aj held her breath as she waited to see the stallions reaction. Nugget surely would have had a fit and tried to climb over the wall to the mare, but Resolution simply greeted the other horse and then abandoned her to go investigate the rest of his surroundings.

After finding his waterer and checking out the hardware to his double-dutch door, the horse let out a long sigh and then to Aj’s surprise, plopped down and laid flat out in the fluffy new shavings. It wasn’t but five minutes in his new home and the horse was comfortable enough to actually fall into REM sleep – Aj had never in her years of working with horse’s seen this. But, she guessed, this was the personality she’d been hoping for when she heard about the laid-back stud. She just didn’t quiet believe it even as she watched the steady rise and fall of the horse’s blanket clad belly. "

He periodically forgets he’s a half-ton horse and wants to sit in your lap. He acts much more like a gelding than a stud.
