Description

Zako Robot (Machine Soldier)

A series of multi-purpose combat robots that are reported to be linked to the military's security system until it was hijacked, causing them to go berserk. These are often spotted wandering about on the city streets, destroying everything in sight. This was perhaps the first part of an huge conspiracy plotted by the Bahamut Rebellion, to create a diversion attack of sorts so they could focus on stealing alien cell samples from the military's research center.

Their functionality is similar to that of the Corporals and Reapers, with each model perfectly replicating the attack patterns of standard enemy troops. These robots are often deployed by Bahamut as the first wave of an invasion as cannon fodder for enemy soldiers. Despite their low durability, their strength lies only in their sheer numbers. While they are cheap and easy to mass produce, their weakness lies in their fragile bodies.

NOTE: Although there are many different models within the MS (Machine Soldier) series, the following list is directly related to the Bahamut Riot incident.

Machine Soldier Type-R (Runner/Blue Robot)

This model can be identified by its blue coloration. Designed for close-quarters combat, it prefers to rush toward the situation and ram into anything that approaches it. Designed to serve as the standard foot soldier.

Machine Soldier Type-G (Gunner/Red Robot)

Designed to replicate the behavior and attack patterns of the standard Ledders, these robots prefer to approach their targets from behind before proceeding to shoot at them. Some variants may also come equipped with an shield for self-defense. These also appear in infinite numbers. Are easily identified by their red coloration.

Machine Soldier Type-SG (Sniper)

A variant of the Red Zako Robots, these come equipped with long-range precision firing equipment similar to those utilised by standard foot soldiers. Prefers to stand on high platforms and are dedicating to holding their posts for long periods.

Machine Soldier Type-CG (Grenade Soldier)

Another variant of the red variety, these come equipped with grenade launchers mounted on their backs. These will fire energy projectiles that will explode upon contact. These also prefer to stand on high platforms.

Flight/Flying Zako

Derivatives of the Zako Robot series, these aerial units come equipped with an jetpack-like apparatus that have granted the ability of flight. This device allows them to travel from long distances, after being deployed from enemy flagships. They also come in a variety of different colorations and they tend to attack in small groups. These prefer to appear one after another, with one replacing the former after it was destroyed. These come equipped with rapid-fire machine guns which they fire diagonally downwards for a few seconds.

Missile Soldier

Another special variation that also gives chase to the Contra commandos on the highway. This rollerskating robot appears to be carrying a giant missile over for its head. It is highly resilient, and if not destroyed in time, it will eventually throw the nuclear-powered missile forward, with the explosion destroying everything in sight and leaving little to no chance for survival.

Rocket Soldier

Zako Robots that were designed specifically for airborne assault. These also come equipped with an jetpack-like apparatus and wings on their back. These are initially concealed inside missiles launched by heavy artillery tanks until the missile falls apart. These also prefer to appear one after another. Comes equipped with modified Vulcan Laser Rifles. If destroyed, then they will drop and roll down on the ground, damaging the tank as they get ran over.

Tiny Robot

Tiny robots that can be found hopping about on the scrapyard found outside the city. They will suddenly appear from the ground, performing somersaults and backflips. Their movements are nimble, allowing them to transverse the landscape with ease. They relied on both their numbers and firepower for survival.

M78 (Multi-legged Cannon)

As their name implies, these strange mechanical lifeforms come with multiple limbs. Presumably used for scouting the city streets and for exterminating unwanted pests, these war machines were often deployed alongside the endless hordes of Zako Robots, easily towering them from above. If provoked, it will begin shooting concentrated firepower from its mouth. The head is its weakspot. Among the first defense mechanisms to have been manufactured by the Bahamut Rebellion with the use of alien technology.

Fire Dragon (Quadrupedal Robot)

Another strange multi-limbed robot intended for security and urban patrol. This robot tends to spin its legs around like blades to deal with ground enemies. Comes equipped with an built-in flamethrower inside its head useful for cleansing the city streets of infestation. Despite its appearance, it is shown to be highly agile. Limited in intelligence, but it performs its job well. The original versions were based on blueprints designed by the Red Falcon army, but later versions were said to be modified and reverse-engineered for use by opposing human factions.

Yokozuna

A series of general-purpose combat robots known for their excellent mobility and super strength, capable of even outrunning the fastest trains with ease. Among the many mobile weapons developed by mankind after the Alien Wars. The Yokozuna series also comes equipped with an wide array of weapons at their disposal depending on the model. It is interesting to note that the name "Yokozuna" refers to the highest rank in professional sumo wrestling.

Maximum Jumbo (Cyclops)

A gigantic humanoid robot that was spotted wandering amongst the city ruins, leading some to believe that it also plays an part in the devastation of human cities. Reports state that this was originally designed by the Red Falcon, until it was recovered and utilised by the rebel forces. Even though it may give the impression that this creature (?) is bulky and slow, it has actually been shown to be very agile, being capable of jumping many stories high and perform a few complex maneuvers, as well as being resistant to extreme conditions, such as withstanding the effects of fire or keeping its integrity intact in high altitudes. Its attacks include throwing large objects, brute force, and an devastating laser beam.

Zako Soldier

The name "Zako Soldier" refers to enemy foot soldiers (whether they be human, alien or robot) that are often deployed into the frontlines as cannon fodder and this serves well enough in their case. For instance, these Zako Soldiers served an similar purpose to the Greeder, Ledder and Grenade Thrower of the Red Falcon armies. They make up the majority of Bahamut's rebel forces, whether it is for labor or for combat. Despite their low durability, these troops still relied on their numbers to overwhelm their enemies.

NOTE: While there are many enemy troops that are designated as belonging to the "Zako Soldier" category, the following list is directly related to the Bahamut Riot incident.

Zako Sword Soldier

Standard foot soldier well equipped and trained for close-quarters combat. Comes equipped with an modified beam saber for cutting their way through incoming enemies and obstacles.

Zako Sniper

Standard foot soldier well trained and equipped for enemy ambushes. Comes equipped with an modified Vulcan Laser pistol, allowing them to shoot from long distances. Prefers to stand on high platforms to keep their distance.

Zako Grenadier

Standard foot soldier trained specifically to test out experimental grenade launchers. These devices are capable of shooting energy projectiles that explode upon hitting the ground. Also prefers to stand on high platforms.

Gymnastics Soldier Team

A elite team of Zako Soldiers highly trained in gymnastics. They come in three groups and each forms a different figure by climbing onto each other, which will then proceed to attack in a characteristic way. These soldiers in particular are remarkably resilient and will withstand a lot of punishment before they die, at which point the figure they were forming will collapse.

Bike Soldier/Motorbike Gunner

Standard foot soldiers that ride on motorcycles while firing their Vulcan Laser pistols at enemies. They are fundamentally similar to the Bike Corps, which are basically combat androids that attack by ramming their motorbikes towards trespassers.
