Description After reading up on some mammals from the ice age like the Cave lion I learned they had tear marks like Cheetahs, the purpose of which almost certainly was to repel the sun's reflection off the snow from their eyes
You can read more on that here: www.deviantart.com/sargeantsat…

Anyways that got me thinking, what if this similar idea could be used by dinosaurs? Specifically the ones who lived in colder environments where snow wouldn't have been unheard of. Now this animal here is Saurornitholestes langstoni found in Alaska (which admittedly not may not be from Price Creek). While this land was cooler and similar to the UK it would've snowed on the occasion so I decided to add a similar tear mark to be used like those of both the cave lion and cheetah. Even dinosaurs found in lands where there was no snow but still would've sunny days could've evolved similar tear marks to protect their eyes from the sun and there were plenty of lands in the mesozoic that could've seen this trait if it was possible.

Now if this feature was found in dinosaurs it was probably limited to a few groups possibly some ornithopods and smaller theropods. Large theropods seem to have evolved larger crests or brow ridges that could've deflected the sun by casting a shadow and other dinosaurs like the marginocephalia had large head ornaments that would've done a similar thing. Now obviously that is now why these traits evolved but would've been a secondary, non intentional purpose.

This was a theory constructed by me and I admittedly acknowledge the flaws in this idea but it is an interesting idea to tinker around with
