5th generation 6-axle 2,250 horsepower was introduced in March 1968, total 223 U23Cs were build just 3 years. 53 for American Railroad and 170 were exported to Brazil. As remember U23C's carbody looks identical to late U30C with two exceptions, they had 6 tall hood doors which had purpose 8 tall hood doors from U30C, and the difference its the overall length of the unit, U23C are 2 feet shorter due to smaller size of 12 cylinders prime mover.Date Built: March 1968 - September 1970
