Hayato Ichimonji (一文字隼人 Ichimonji Hayato) is Kamen Rider 2 (仮面ライダー２号 Kamen Raidā Nigō, Masked Rider 2), or Kamen Rider 2-go[1], a character from the Japanese Tokusatsu Television series Kamen Rider, the first in the famous Kamen Rider franchise of tokusatsu programs. The secondary protagonist of the series, like Kamen Rider 1, is a motorcycle-riding superhero modeled upon a grasshopper.

Hayato is an optimistic man who tries to make people happy and cheerful even in the darkest moments despite his own misfortunes. Although he originally resented his cybernetic enhancements, he has nonetheless learned to live with it as he fights evil around the world. He exhibits a playful sense of humor, with a tendency to affectionately tease his allies, even in the face of danger.

Originally, Hayato was rather naive, hot-headed, and simple in contrast to the more sharp and calm personality Takeshi had. It was after some time did Hayato learn to think more with his head and matured to the point where he became a mentor to Shiro alongside Takeshi.

It was hinted in one of the Climax games that Hayato is a strict teacher compared to Takeshi throughout dialogue between him (Hayato) and Shiro.

Born October 10, 1949, Hayato Ichimonji is a freelance photographer, kidnapped by the organization Shocker in order to become a reconstructed human able to fight the traitor Takeshi Hongo, aka Kamen Rider. Before Shocker scientists had a chance to brainwash him, Takeshi appears and saves Hayato's sanity. Takeshi leaves Japan to fight Shocker branches overseas, and Hayato becomes his successor as Kamen Rider, protecting Japan from Shocker's actions.

Arriving in Japan to cover for Takeshi, Hayato first makes his presence known to Tobee Tachibana and Kazuya Taki while they investigated attacks by Shocker cyborg Cactogron. Initially playing coy as to his identity, he finally reveals that he is, like Takeshi, a Kamen Rider, transforming in front of them to defeat Cactogron. The Devilish Cactogron Attacks!. Hayato would then work with Tachibana and Taki and regularly stayed at the Tachibana Racing Club. He and Taki served as the primary defense against Shocker's attacks in Japan for the time, confronting Colonel Zol, Doctor Death and Ambassador Hell's schemes.

Sometime later, Takeshi Hongo returns to Japan and fights alongside Hayato. Now, Takeshi is known as Kamen Rider 1 and Hayato, Kamen Rider 2. The pair is occasionally called "The Double Riders". With Takeshi back, Hayato left Japan to fight Shocker in South America. Near the end of the series, Kamen Rider 2 is back to help Kamen Rider 1 to defeat Gel-Shocker, Shocker's new denomination.
