Basil first hand had seen a mouse turn into a wolf, just like in the legends. He had been puzzled about how to prove it to others that Ratigan was a Rathwolf and responsible for the killings. Basil had decided to see the laboratory before he made a move on Ratigan. It had managed to get inside without being seen, finding the lab empty he explored it. Basil took in every detail and examined everything that could be useful. Even grabbed some Wolfsbane and put it in his pocket. He took particular interest in the flowers that held the means of controlling a wolf’s transformation. Soon he discovered the vials that contained the formula.

Ratigan: Good evening Basil.. I didn’t realize I was playing host to you or giving you a private tour of my laboratory… How do you like it?

He had been caught, Basil anticipated the possibility but hoped he wouldn’t have to face him. Knowing what he was, Basil turned and faced him with a smile.

Basil: I figured you wouldn’t mind, since we are both well known for our intelligence. One scientific mind to another… I’m impressed. It’s a brilliant laboratory, the work you do down here is beyond anything I’ve seen anywhere else. It’s such a shame that it belongs to a twisted monster..

Ratigan’s smile never faltered: A monster you say? Could it be that you have been talking to my nephew?

Basil nodded: I know everything I even know why you murdered your brother and fiancé Merelda..

Ratigan’s smile vanished: They both betrayed me, they got what they deserved!

Basil: Let me guess.. Your brother found out you were a Rathwolf. He wanted to help you so when you refused to let him help he turned to Merelda. Somehow he knew she had special knowledge about Rathwolves.

Ratigan: Yes… he spoke to her and because of him she realized that I WAS A RATHWOLF!!! And then… then.. she told me it was over.. she broke our engagement… I told her I had it under control but she refused to listen.. I loved Merelda… so when the next full moon came.. the temptation was too great….

Basil: Let me guess, you “forgot” to take your formula and just so happened to be outside with Ratoul when the change occurred. So why did you wait so long to kill the girl?

Ratigan: I was content to let her live but then my stupid and ungrateful nephew decided to go snooping around!

Basil: You were afraid he would meet Merelda and talk.

Ratigan: James was the only one who hadn’t turned on me! I was determined to keep what family I had left! When I learned I had bitten him.. I thought I found a kindred spirit.. someone who would understand but instead he treated me like a monster.

Basil: But you are.. the moment you chose to let that thing kill those most dear to you.. you became a monster.

Ratigan: The moon will be out soon.. I’ll show you a monster soon ENOUGH!!!
