Completely boarded up on a small road in the middle of the city sits this abandoned ranch house that has seen better days. Most people if they drove by this house, they wouldn't give it a second look thinking that it wouldn't be at all interesting but they would be wrong! According to the calendar I found, this house has likely been abandoned for about 9 years but the inside would make you think it has been a lot longer than that. Full of furniture and belongings and what seems to be the original interior from when the house was built, it was a time capsule, albeit a disgusting one. I like to see decay in these places but to be honest this one was a little too far gone for me. Giant holes in the roof letting the snow and rain in, everything inside has begun to fall apart and is covered in insulation from the ceiling above. There was also a fire at some point that appeared to have started in the basement kitchen which then moved to the upstairs bathroom causing it to completely collapse. You can see that the surrounding floor area surrounding this room is beginning to fall as well. It's hard to tell when the fire started but given that everything was left behind when the owners left, it probably took place while it was still lived in.
The entire property encompasses several acres but is owned by two different companies and the redevelopment plans date as far back as 1987 yet nothing has taken place. The parcel of land that the house is not on is slated to become a senior's home and a community centre. However the parcel that includes the this home has been bought and sold a few times over the last couple of decades. The first proposal was for 18 detached homes, a few years later a new proposal for a 9 and 12 storey building had been submitted but given the area and the local residents objections, the proposal was refused. Fast forward 10 years and a few proposals later, the current owners are trying to build one single detached home along with 37 three storey townhouses. I don't know if the proposal was accepted or not but 2 years have passed since the application was submitted yet still nothing has been done with the property.
