I suspect that the Drakh have some particular reason to want Bester to suffer but why I have no idea... Or maybe they want to farm favours with the humans? Is the war going against them and they're looking for a wedge by which they can sue for peace?

I suspect that Lyta is using all her remaining strength to stop what little is left of Talia from going supercritical and reducing every living thing for miles in every direction to a blank-brained vegetable.
