Description
Both start off as ordinary boys who dream of adventure only to be thrust into a war between light and darkness, inheriting a sacred sword of the light itself (the Goddess Sword/Master Sword, and the Kingdom Key of the Realm of Light), and become the hero of their realm (and many others through Link's reincarnations and Sora's journey across worlds) against the many incarnations of the dark overlord (Demise and his reincarnations through Ganon, and Xehanort and his myriad reincarnations). They are also significantly defined by their deep emotional connection they have with a maiden of pure light who was also their childhood friend at the journey's start (Zelda/Kairi), who're tied to the creation mythos of their 'verses (Zelda as the reincarnation of the goddess Hylia and bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom, Kairi as one of the seven pure hearts/Princesses of Heart who can open the Final Door to Darkness and reveal the kingdom Hearts of Worlds) and the colourful cast of companions they befriend and draw power from along their journeys. Then you also have some more niche but kinda cool stuff with other iterations of Link's connections with Sora (whether it be the time travel that SS and OoT!lLink gets up to, the shadowy doppelgangers of themselves they've been forced to face, or ALTTP/Downfall Timeline's Link having to face Ganon with the completed Triforce in the way Sora had to face Master Xehanort with the x-blade and Kingdom Hearts on his side).
