SEASON 1, EPISODE 1: And so it begins, Part 1
This is the prequel series to "Star Trek: Hope"...

This part of the story takes place during Season 6 of The Next Generation:
The Enterprise encounters an unmarked ship. This ship is obviously Starfleet, but has no name or registration number on it. Data recognizes that it is a prototype of the new Incursion class starship, which was stolen directly from the shipyard where it was built. How and who was able to steal this ship was never found out. Picard orders to hail that ship, but someone from the ship hails them first. When they respond, a man in a blue uniform and a military rank of general appears on the screen. "Greetings. I'm General James Raiders. We need to talk, Captain.", says the man in blue uniform.

Opening credits

On the Enterprise, security brings General Raiders to the captain's office. "I know you have a lot of questions, and I'll try to answer all of them, but now I have to warn you...", starts Raiders. "I must warn you too. Stealing a ship is a serious crime.", says angry Picard. "I didn't steal the ship. The people I work for did. I stole the ship from them. And I feel free to return it to you. But first I have to warn you. They want to attack you.", says James. Picard asks him who are "They". James looks at him with hesitation, but eventually tells him: "Starfleet". "Excuse me?", Picard asks in disbelief. "Starfleet. Its another version. You are the Federation, they call themselves the Alpha Alliance. Alpha because it is made up of the Alpha Quadrant species, but also because they feel superior and better than the Federation. For you they will be no more than rebels.", explains Raiders. He also tells Picard that they are almost ready for a coup. They want to take Earth and replace the Federation with the Alpha Alliance. Picard still doesn't trust him completely, but suddenly another unmarked ship, this time an Excelsior class, decloaked in front of the Enterprise.

"Excelsior class with cloaking device? What is going on here?", whispers Riker to Picard. Raiders tell them that they have sent this ship to stop him, and that they are ordered not to leave any witnesses. Worf says they can handle an old Excelsior class ship. But James tells them that their ships are old, but greatly improved. This Excelsior class can easily match the Galaxy class starship. They have improved weapons, shields and propulsion. Excelsior class opens fire on the Enterprise. "Shields at 70%!", reports Worf. Raiders asks Picard to let him return to his ship. Picard hesitates, but eventually gives him permission to go. James attacks the Excelsior with an Incursion class ship, but their shields hold. Then, together with the Enterprise, they target the shield emitters and attack again. The enemy's shields are down to 15%. "Be ready to transport me on my command.", says Raiders to Picard. James leads his ship on a collision course with the enemy. When the Incursion class crashes into Excelsior, James is transported aboard the Enterprise.

Later, James is brought to Picard's office. Picard tells him he has to arrest him, but that he helped in combat and those information about the enemy he gives are mitigating circumstances. He also tells him he will speak up for him at Starfleet.

James asks for one thing. Whatever the punishment will be... no matter for how long he ends up in prison... James wants to return to Starfleet with his rank of General. Picard says he'll do what he can. Then James is taken to a cell, and the Enterprise sets out to Starbase for James's interrogation.

End credits

Post-credits scene:
A security officer walks down the corridor of the prison cells. He deactivates the force field of one of the cells and says, "Come with me. The Admirals wants to speak with you." A man emerges from the darkness of the cell... it's James.
