I see Frisk as being a shy boy who doesn't usually talk but nods in response to questions and grunts while Chara is the more assertive of the two, and as a result Frisk looks up to Chara. During their journey only Frisk could see Chara and she guided him through the underground.
Genocide route is where Frisk lets Chara have too much control. In Chara's current state she is soulless like Flowey and feels no empathy, making her a psycho. Flowey even mentions he went through a stage where he tried killing everyone and then resetting the world.
Pacifist Route is where Frisk ignores Chara and Chara starts to become more sympathetic as she makes friends with Frisk, supports him, and remembers her life before her death. She believed monsters deserved to rule because she hated humanity. When the monsters are freed she finally finds peace.
