Part of the DC Unlimited Continuity, Quan Chi's origins and past were shrouded in mystery. For all we know, Quan Chi could be as old as the Nether Realm. But the question remained...why the feud between the Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu? What could he have gained from pitting the rival clans against each other, other than the souls of fallen warriors to create his unholy reveneants? Why does he pit them against each other? In the DC Unlimited, that origin becomes clear. In the early days of The Lin Keui and The Shirai Ryu, Quan Chi served as a trickster sorcerer who only practice dark magics to make disguises for himself, occasionally causing mischief to feed his own ends. Durinng a time of peace between clans, Quan Chi was seduced by the fallen elder god Shinnok. Promising him more power than he could possibly imagine. At the time, Quan Chi saw this as an opportunity for revenge, for the clans' earliest battles took many unfortunate casualties, mainnly Quan Chi's human villiage. So he disguised himself as the Lin Kuei's grandmaster and killed the Shirai Ryu's grandmaster in return. This caused a respark in the rivalry of both clans. At first Quan Chi felt happy, but then Shinnok offered him more, and taught him the ways of necromancy, and teleportaion. Needless to say whatever humanity the trickster sorceeerer had died. Quan Chi would continue this cycle until he disguised himself as Bi Han and exterminated the Shirai Ryu, alongside Sektor and former member Kijaro Yamamoto, who Quan Chi manipulate, and concvinced of joining the Brotherhood of Shadow. Needless to say his vengeance was close. And the events of Mortal Kombat mythologies, and the first mortal kombat played out just the same.

Currently in the DC Unlimited, the secret of Quan Chi has been revealed to Scorpion, creating an on going feud, between him and the Ghost of The Shirai Ryu. With all the while, his schemes have cultivated him in releasing Shinnok, but was then confronted by Etrigan and Raven. Quan Chi was then protected by the Demon lord known as Trigon The Terrible, per the the request of Shinnok...and Darkseid.
